Hotel Description

This 18th century former coaching inn is renowned for its atmosphere and critically acclaimed food.

Surrounded by beautiful Welsh countryside, The Wynnstay offers the full hotel services you would expect from a 3-star hotel, but with the warmth of character and service more akin to its traditional origins. A convivial Good Beer Guide listed bar is complemented by, “The best food I've eaten in Wales” (The Daily Telegraph) in the restaurant and the number one pizza restaurant in the UK (according to The Times).

A major social centre in the town, catering for business travelers and tourists, mountain bikers, golfers, fishermen and those who just want to enjoy the beautiful surrounding area.

The Observer called it “different”; The Guardian called it “rustic and cosy”; hopefully, you will call it home.

This rambling, Georgian building was once the coaching inn for the Shrewsbury Stage. It was described by The Sunday Times as "a bit of a Tardis", being actually much more spacious than at first appears, yet retaining an essential intimacy. It has long been a place for the weary traveller to rest. As the main hotel in the centre of town, The Wynnstay is a social hub; a place to meet old friends and to make new ones, where locals mix with visitors in an atmosphere that encourages conversation, debate and tall tales

The Wynnstay is fortunate to have access to an abundance of fresh, local produce, including Welsh lamb and Beef; sea fish from Cardigan Bay, including wild sea bass, crab & lobster; and when in season, game such as pheasant, duck, partridge, woodcock; together with wild salmon, sea trout, and brown trout. They also provide Welsh cheeses and some wonderful wild mushrooms, including Porcini and Chanterelles.

Served either in the bar or the restaurant, the food is prepared by dedicated, experienced chefs who will be able to please both the gourmet and the arch traditionalist. To accompany your meal are a wide selection of expertly selected fine wines - the Wynnstay was the winner of the Les Routiers Best Wine List in Britain Award 2005.

Alternatively, try a home-made made pizza made the traditional way in the renowned Pizzeria to the rear of the hotel.

Disabled access to the ground floor only. Being an 18th century building, wheelchair access to the upper floors is sadly not practical.
