Area Information

Fairburn Lodge (and Activity Centre) is situated just 30 minutes from the city of Inverness, in the heart of the Highland countryside. The nearest village is Muir of Ord, with Beauly and Contin also nearby. There are many things to see and do locally and the beauty of the surrounding countryside is second to none. The Moray Firth is just a short drive away and there are boat trips for dolphin spotting.

West of the A9, the Black Isle merges into the gentle hills of Mid Ross. Here, the A862 weaves through a series of villages including Muir of Ord, home to the renowned Glen Ord Distillery and Visitor Centre. From Muir of Ord, you can head west via the villages of Marybank and Contin. Detours en route can include exploring the hills of Strathconon or a walk at the Falls of Rogie, a few miles beyond Contin. Meanwhile, north of Muir of Ord, you come to the attractive market town of Dingwall, which is overlooked by the impressive Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial and has a fine leisure centre and swimming pool.

Five miles west of Dingwall, you can visit the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer. Strathpeffer made its name as a Victorian spa without equal in the UK. Between Dingwall and the Dornoch Firth, the rich farmland of Easter Ross provides a backdrop for friendly communities such as Evanton, Alness, Invergordon and Tain. Near Evanton, on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, you find The Storehouse of Foulis (formerly Clanland & Sealpoint) - a new visitor centre at Foulis Ferry.
