"If those little problems were sorted it would be OK - except that why, O why, do those of us travelling alone pay the same room rate but get a smaller room???" (97278695)
All the staff I met staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. The situation of the hotel is excellent.
I had to fix the toilet flush twice as the handle kept falling off. The bath took 20 minutes to fill (despite a notice saying beware - it would fill in 90 seconds!)due to the cold tap running at a mere trickle. The bedside light was attached to a broken out of date 'round' three pin socket which was broken. I therefore had to move the desk lamp to act as a bedside lamp.

"We requested an early entry into a room to get changed for a wedding. We had to change in cramped wet filthy conditions in the leisure facility and were not offered a room to go to despite being there from 9.45am. The hotel is sad and needs a facelift and new management" (97279786)
The view
The bed. The appalling state of the public toilets and leisure facility. The appalling service from the staff. There was no toilet paper in the mens toilets at all.

The rooms where spacious and clean, bed was really comfy and had a great view.
The rooms Could be done with being updated but still nice in its own way. Drinks and food were really expensive in the bar but was nice aatmosphere.

Spacious room
Double bed (vs King), room and bathroom seemed tired, as if they had seen better days. Room was noisy - function going on in bar was quite audible until 1 am.

"As we were a hen party we were concerned we may have been treated differently but we were made very welcome. All nine of us were happy with our accommodation." (97195668)
Our rooms were all overlooking the river and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was a great place to meet up before going out in the evening.
one of us had a camp bed which was extremely uncomfortable and collapsed regularly!! The hotel pool was in need of an overhall - not very clean looking and very hard to find!

"The website for the hotel is poor. It says nothing of the amenities the hotel has to offer. Under activities it says 'Jacuzzi' - surely you can do better than that....but the hotel is excellent." (97458433)
Excellent room, but the bathroom was a little old and tired
Great idea to have breakfast in that way, executive lounge

"Hotel very nice, some issues to resolve. Will return if these can be dealt with." (97885855)
i thought the hotel was extremely clean and the staff were very polite. In particular, the reception staff were very professional and most courteous.
There were two things that irritated me as both were easily avoidable. 1) The lunch / bar area was very badly staffed, resulting in a number of mistakes being made with customer orders etc, resulting in an air of disorganisation, which was most apparent to guests. Suggestion: someone needs to be waiting on tables and walking the floor with no responsibility for what's going on behind the bar. 2) The TV was not tuned in correctly ie the channel set up detailed in the welcome pack did not correspond to the channels that were actually available on the TV (eg BBC news 24 on 2 channels etc). There was no means of manually tuning in the TV.

"The position is good, view from the room splendid, pleasant and helpful staff, convenient parking, sheets etc fine. Decor was rather tired - definitely 1980s - and furniture in need of a makeover. Thw windows were really dirty and a dirty shelf obscured what was a lovely view from window" (99427080)
The view, the Connoisseur Suite
The decor was rather tired - very 1980s The windows were filthy

"Overall an excellent choice with superb quality accommodation. A very comfortable bed, pool and leisure facilities, free car park, lovely views plus convenient location made this an ideal choice for us. The food was superb and only let down by an unacceptable delay in serving, due to staff shortages on the particular day in question I understand." (99861728)
Comfortable and clean with excellent views.
Non working internet keyboard, (batteries missing!) this is an excellent facility which should have been tested and worked fine once I pinched some batteries from another appliance of my own.

Lovely room overlooking the Tyne and in view of the famous bridge
Sunday morning breakfast - some items not available. Although the hotel was busy all advertised items should be available at a hotel of this category.

"Having stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions, this was as expected- good quality service, good rooms ( at the right temperature!) and courteous staff. Will definitely be staying again." (97076706)
The rroms are very well laid out, particularly the ones overlooking the quay. Beds are extremely comfortable, giving the usually much needed good night's sleep!
The bath! Wanting a good soak after a day's driving, I felt like I was sat on a shelf, rather than sinking into a hot bath. I appreciate this may be connected to water conservation/keeping costs down, but a little deeper would be good!

"A very pleasant experience. the hotel lived up to its billing as a 4 star, it was clean, spacious and bright and staff were excellent epecially reception and porters." (99355336)
bright, modern hotel right beside the quayside. Staff very helpful and room good size and with everything in working order. Quayside bus (which staff surprisingly did not mention) ideal for reaching shopping area at top of the town. We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on food, service etc
Nothing, measured up to expectations as a 4 star hotel. One minor point is that perhaps some my find the area immediately around the hotel a little deserted and a bit of a no mans land.

"Unexpected complimentary upgrade to 5th floor Executive room with use of private lounge, free continental breakfast (or £10 set charge for English) provided that extra added value. Harry's Bar was friendly and widely stocked with a full range. Chose to make use of room-service for evening meal and this was served quickly with food arriving freash and hot. A good breakfast range with friendly efficient service. Totally recommended." (99054773)
Excellently presented fully fitted rooms, comfortable king size bed and good staff service with a smile.
Nothing. I had previously read of problems with train noise in certain areas of the hotel. I was not troubled by the level of this external factor. Driving to the hotel (free) car park was a little confusing due to the extent of building work ongoing (by others) at the rear of the hotel with some road closures in place.

"Our stay was pleasant, the hotel was close to bars and restraunts which was a plus. The breakfast was excellent with a full choice. The staff in the restraunt were helpful and friendly. We felt that the web site gave us enough information about the hotel and area prior to booking." (99537348)
Adequate for what we wanted. The room was clean and had everything which we required for a short stay.
We felt the room was rather dated, could possibly do with being updated. This could also be said about the bath and shower.

Although a continental breakfast was included it was not particularly exciting and I tasted the worst cup of tea in my life - please clean out the machine - it tasted more of chocolate and coffee than tea." "We deliberatly booked a conisoure room as we have done in the past only to find we were put on the first floor not 5th where the private lounge was. we were extreamly dissapointed to find out that the drinks and canapays were no longer avalible. We were also disappointed to find no clean cups avalibe in the lounge for coffee. We will be visiting Newcastle again in the new year but are considering staying at the hilton or the malmason next time as a lot of the frills seem to have gone and this made our stay special." The Restaurant and the new reception area
The hotel was absolutely far too hot, every where you went it was unbearable and the air conditioning wasn't powerful at all. Also the spa was out of order and some broken tiles in the bathroom which made the washing area seem unclean.

"Overall we thought the hotel was good value for money. The view of the river from our room enhanced the enjoyment of our stay and the public areas were all of good quality. The hotel was in an excellent location being only a 10/15 minute walk from the Metro Radio Arena and it was also easy to reach the centre of Newcastle. We were very impressed with Newcastle as a whole and found the people to be very welcoming." (99718845)

Some of the gym equipment wasn't working properly and the room service was a bit slow.

"The location by the River Tyne and standing on the quayside. Very convenient for the redveloped area around the bridges. Easy access from the A1 although current building works accross the way inhibit access. There is no disruption to the hotel which is good value for the quality of the service and layout of the building. Although only tsyaed there 3 times I have never had cause for complaint or concern about any aspect of this Hotel. The main restaurant is large and underused which made eating alone a somewaht cold experience. The bar is well furnished and overlooks the River and the hotel is sufficiently away from the main bar district so as not to attract none residents." (99024250)
