"Very noisy outside. Rough area. Miserable entrance to hotel. Would liked to have known what a rough area the hotel was in. Got taxi back as scared of area." (97365936)

very noisy outside at three in the morning. Fights and foul language for two to three hours. Disturbed sleep.

"The hotel is comfortable and central, but rather noisy at night from the streets. We had been to the theatre and got back about 11.00 pm to find the bar was closed.(Saturday night in a city centre! ) The night porter service is very limited (bottled beer only and no spirits.) So that curtailed our evening." (97017889)

Well appointed rooms, good facilities in rooms. Staff pleasant.

No lounge bar open after 11.00 pm on a Saturday night. The bedside light was not working.(reported on checkout.

"I reckon this was great value for money and would defo come back!" (99718173)

Excellent food in restaurant - and loads of it. Friendly staff. Great central location.

Restaurant wasnt open till after 6:30 pm

"The hotel was clean, well decorated, had good facilities and was very convenient for Leeds town centre. However, my first room was unacceptable, but the receptionist was extremely helpful and allocated me another room immediately. The food in the restaurant was good, but there was a lack of staff in both the restaurant and the bar and so service was very slow." (97044420)

The rooms were comfortable, and my second room was clean and had good facilities

The first room I was allocated had a broken hairdryer, TV and kettle, and the carpet had not been vacuumed

    Found it ok

They lock the door at night and you have to keep banging to get in. No fied eggs at breakfast just luke warm scrambled and the cost was £11.95 T.V didnt work in the room. No parking and that was £15 and not the ten pounds that was suggested on their advertisment. The bath was half size and their was no soap provide or shampoo suppled. One lift doesnt work and I could have done a part time job waiting for the remaing one

"Friendly staff, clean, smart, good central location, adjoining discount parking. Just shame about the high price and broken window." (97630311)

Changed my double room to a single room at my request due to my partner not being able to attend.

Cost of room over-priced. Window in room would not close, so I couldn't close out the noisey street below. Therefore didn't get hardly any sleep!

Good location, good sized room, convenient for centre. Parking close by and reasonable cost

Not clear where to park when checking in - got 'trapped' in a queue of cars. Need information on web site re. entering car park before checking in. Extractor fan in bathroom did not work. Very noisy overnight - no air conditioning so had to have window open. City centre noise a disturbance all night. Food way too expensive compared to that available locally.

"Enjoyable though as we were there for early outpatient appointment at the LGI re very serious operation it wasn't really a fun visit. Hotel beautifully quiet, we were most impressed" (97712286)

Very helpful staff and most enjoyable dinner - freshly cooked, hadn't been hanging around for ages. Dining room very pleasant. Sinful croissants were delicious at breakfast - ate such large dinner couldn't manage much breakfast - shame.

Pot of tea not hot enough at breakfast though freshly drawn from machine (this is nitpicking)Room could have been larger, but quite adequate

"Fine for our purpose of business accomodation but I wouldn't recommend it for people taking a break in Leeds." (97466803)

Clean rooms with good facilities and comfortable beds. Great showers.

We ate in the resturant and while the food was lovely the hours wait between starters and main course was not, especially when there were about five people in the restaurant. We were told that this was due to a high amount of room service orders but still unacceptable. Also when my order came it was wrong. However the wait staff were very professional and accomodating, taking some of the food off our bill. Check the waiting time for food before deciding to eat here.

    central

the service, we waited 2 hours for our dinners and it was completely inedible, we were told that it was because it was busy...there were 10 people in the dining room

The hotel was very central. The rooms were of a good standard for the price.

Continetal breakfast is quite expensive with a limited range of food.

  • 6/10 Laura ( Group of work colleagues)

from Carlisle , GB  on  January 18, 2008

"On face value this is a nice hotel. The decor is traditional but in need of a facelift in some areas. The staff we encountered were polite, friendly & helpful but there just weren't enough staff in the bar/restaurant which spoiled our stay. I won't be staying at this hotel again." (97173086)

The room was small but comfortable and adequate for my requirements. The staff were polite & helpful. The free paper in the morning was a nice surprise. The food in the restaurant was good. The location was excellent.

There was only one member of staff covering the whole of the bar/restaurant which was far from sufficient. There were no members of staff visible for 15-20 minutes at a time, while us & several other customers waited to be served (it wasn't even busy!). We gave up waiting at the bar in the end. My colleague had to change rooms because the hairdryer & kettle didn't work and the carpet hadn't been vacuumed.

    good value

  • 5/10 Susan ( Group of adult friends)

from Chester le street , GB  on  July 15, 2007

It was close to the city centre

You had to pay for the parking. Price of the drinks in the hotel bar, most expensive bottle of cider I have ever bought.

  • 5/10 Keith ( Family with older children)

from Brentwood , GB  on  July 12, 2007

"The meals in the reastaurant were a joke Ok it was Sunday night but the standard was dreadful. As the hotel was nearly fully booked and we were the only ones in the restaurant thta speaks volumes. Breakfast was not hot." (99668905)

Hotel rooms are tired. They did say that they are redecorating the rooms, they need to. Redecorated room was not much better,we had 3 rooms for our family stay.

  • 9/10 Roger ( Mature couple)

from Shipston on stour , GB  on  July 12, 2007

"Overall very good. Staff very helpfull and hotel clean and tidy.Shame about over heated room, I never found a way of turning the heating down, and with the windows open to cool down you get traffic noise . Perhaps I was on the wrong side of the hotel." (99684723)

The room was very warm and opening the window let in traffic noise so not good for a quiet nights sleep.

    nice evening meal

The thick black hair I found in my breakfast, yuk! ruined my stay . very dissapointed as i was looking forwrd to it, but I wouldnt eat anything from there restaurant after that.

  • 10/10 Andrew ( Solo business traveller)

"In previous trips to this hotel although discounts have been available to off set the cost of parking in the Merrion Centre car park I have never been able to obtain a voucher. On this occasion the hotel seemed much keener to provide the vouchers to guests. It should be noted that even with the voucher the cost of leaving my car in the car park from 5:00PM Monday night to 14:45 was £10.20." (99997593)

The accomodation was to its usual standard well presented, clean with all items in the room working correctly.

(99957119)

the accommodation suited our needs for our stay

  • 7/10 Katherine ( Solo leisure traveller)

    Clean, quiet, lovely staff.

No kettle, but there was tea making facilities! No iron and ironing board in room so had to request one.

  • 9/10 Graham ( Group of work colleagues)

from Cheltenham , GB  on  May 5, 2007

It was clean and well maintained

No air con and lumpy pillows. I couldn't sleep with the window open as it was too noisey and couldn't sleep with it shut as it was too hot. Only one lift worked.

"I would recommend this hotel due to its location for Leeds city centre, for our shopping and night out it was superb. However we were not told that the hotel would be locked in the evening and had to wait outside for the porter to let us in, as a group of girls we were not warned about this during check-in which we were not impressed about." (99419084)

Lack of information given at check-in

wall paper needs replacing heating/air conditioning quite noisy

  • 2/10 Alix ( Family with older children)

    from Orpington , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 17, 2007

The location of the hotel was good for the whole of the shopping area of Leeds, and the university, but was far enough away from the nightlife noise, so sleep was not disturbed by clubbers returning home !!

The general shabbiness of the rooms - there were splashes of coffee/food on the wallpaper, broken door hooks, and missing drawer knobs, curtains etc and it generally looked as if it needed a thorough redecoration programme.

"The Hotel does not have a car park and although the local car park was very easily accessible from the Hotel any more than a 12 hour stay cost £13.00 (GBP). I wanted a sandwich on arrival but the room service menu was more like a resturant menu all hot food choices. On request the hotel staff were extremely helpful and arranged for a sandwich to be prepared and sent to my room." (99878764)

Reasonably priced. Very helpful staff and hotel manager

Hotel Parking not provided, the room service menu was a resturant menu.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

    on  January 30, 2007

"I was pleasantly surprised by this 3 star hotel as the accommodation was better than I was expecting. The facilities, cleanliness, location etc were all up to scratch. Although the service was slow, particularly in the hotel bar (staff had a tendency to disappear for long periods). That said, if you're the kind of person who doesn't mind having to wait longer than you should for service, there's a bargain to be had at this little gem in the heart of Leeds." (99330852)

Very good value for money. Jan special at £39 per night b&b.

The service was slow at breakfast & hotel bar on both days I stayed.
