The room booked and acknowledged was already booked and we had to stay in a small room which I would not have accepted as a self catering holiday let. This was to be a special occasion for my wife and self on out 50th - golden - wedding anniversary. We were most disappointed and let down.

"directions from the Net were good. Easy to find. Plenty of free parking. good choice of light snacks or full menu in the evening. The eggs at breakfast were particularly good!!" (97395250)
delightful period pub in a good location for visiting the area. Convenient for Ironbridge Gorge. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere
Slight traffic noise problem ( room overlooking a busy junction)alleviated by secondary double glazing.

"This was our third stay at this hotel so obviously we always enjoy our visits here. The staff are always very cheerful and friendly and the meals are always excellent in the comfortable and clean restaurant." (99106770)
The room was spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities.

"I felt that the information received was good. I did not feel that I needed to know anything before booking. I was looking for an hotel in the area so as to visit friends; rooms were available. The food in the hotel was good, the evening restaurant meals were excellent, the breakfast good and filling and served with alacrity." (99905106)
Easily accessible. It did not pretend to be anything other than a pub with accommodation. The locals were friendly and the staff liked what they were doing.

"Cannot fault anything, everything was as expected, clean, tidy, old worldly, nice food, only the weather was depressing." (99243464)
The accommodation was clean, evening meal excellent and the staff friendly. The bar served real beers in a nice atmosphere.
The electric shower in the en suite, can`t get on with them, either too hot or too cold or both, never found a good on yet, but managed.

"This was our second visit to this hotel and on our first visit we had a larger room. As mentioned above, we were a little disapointed with the size of the room but this was just a nminor setback." (99619113)
Very clean and comfortable.
The room was a little cramped.

"I would like to have been warned that the room was likely to be noisy as it is on a busy road with a quarry just down the road. I would have even preferred a smoking room if that meant that it would have been quieter. Good menu in the restaurant." (99287220)
Very good quality sheets.
The noisiest room I have ever stayed in.

"The accommodation was exactly as we hoped it would be. It is essentially a pub with some bedrooms which is what we wanted. We felt very welcome. The food was excellent and we certainly hope to stay there again." (99159159)
Our room was warm, comfortable and cleaned daily with fresh towels provided. We visited in November. The real log fire in the bar was particularly welcome. The breakfasts were wonderful. We ate from the a la carte dining room menu on the Saturday night and the meal was excellent.
I can't think of any negative points.

"The hotel is in a good location in Much Wenlock, shops and a 24-hour garage mini-mart very close. It is a beautiful country area with much history, lots to see. Perfect for walkers or car visitors. There is a midnight lock up, but there are rooms outside the main building of the hotel where 24 access is not a problem. The hotel people were friendly and accomodating, it was very busy when we were there. There is plenty of car parking. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The evening meals looked good, home cooking type menu, but no sandwiches or snacks. Beer was excellent, with a guest ale and on-tap cider, but no draught perry." (3304692134)
Really friendly and accommodating, all the staff worked as a team together - more like a family.
THe midnight curfew was too difficult for us but when we came in late we still got a smile.

"The place could do with a bit of a revamp, it an amazing historic building which must have been renovated in the early 90's, it's very dated.." (3304091965)
It was rustic and was in a beautiful village
The staff were not very accomodating and rather unfriendly apart from a couple of people, and we were not informed on the online booking that there was a curfew at 11.30 due to the fact that no key's for rooms were given out, which was very inconvenient, the bathroom was tiny.

"I read the reviews of previous guests and was influenced by them before booking on line. This is a good 2 star hotel with good food I would add my recommendation." (3304704712)
The hotel looked as if it had recent refurbishment. The room was quite new and clean with the usual facilities. Excellent breakfast provided.
Just one smallpoint, no loo-roll holder.

Booked two standard rooms but was upgraded to Mews suites. They were well decorated and appointed. The bed very comfortable. In general far superior to its 2 star grading.
very minor point was the 9am breakfast on Sunday an extra half hour in bed would have been nice.

"My first impresion of the room was that it was fresh and clean looking, set out well and all the facilities were there. As I do stay in hotels a lot, getting into the bed was the best experience. The pillows were comfortable and the sheets were excellent, soft and smooth. Believe me this is what makes the hotel a winner for somebody in my position. I have spent many a night trying to plump some comfort into a pillow and avoid the scratchy bed linen. I think the only thing I would have liked to have known was more detail on the direction and car park. Maybe being female and travelling alone these are areas of importance, and although there are some details could have had map clearly stating distances from Telford etc. Late at night in a strange area can be daunting when you are not sure if you are on the right ropad, especially in this case as the road is country and dark." (2748599)
Decor of the room
Cannot really say as only got there in time to go to bed and left early next morning

The size of the accommodation was excellent, with plenty of space to relax as well. Garden was beautiful! Parking and access to the Coach House suite was very good.
Choice at breakfast e.g. continental breakfast - for those not wanting cooked/fried food! Need to erradicate the flies from dining room and bar eating areas.

"Much Wenlock is lovely and the hotel is convenient for a nice walk around the town. The room I had was adequate but could do with an update. The restaurant provided a very good breakfast and both dinner and wine offered a good selection and good value - overheard several people raving about the food. The evening waiters were really charming. I had a good discount on the room and felt overall it was good value for money. However, the stated room rate of £120 is far too high for a room with mock wood furniture and a strip light above the bed." (2397634)
The staff were charming and pleasant and the restaurant was very good value for money
There were a few touches in my room which need to be removed as they are a bit tacky - the strip light above the bed and the plastic shower attachment in the bathroom for example.

"A market town inn/hotel with some character. Mews rooms large and immaculate. The downstairs 'lounge' very comfortable, with comfortable 'bedroom' upstairs - perfect for a short stay or holiday. En-suite a tad tight, but with all you need, and pleasant complimentary soaps/shampoos etc. Dinner very enjoyable, and served without rush. Staff friendly. Breakfast also well up to scratch. The morning staff also very friendly, even warning me of traffic delays on my morning journey. Booked me out as I finished breakfast - saving my skin (by taking their advice, I arrived just 5 minutes early - it would have been 30-40 minutes late)." (2296802)
Large, well equiped room - lounge area with bedroom upstairs. Perfect for the longer stay. Excellent meals, complemented by effective friendly service.

"The Gaskell Arms was a comfortable 2 star hotel, the food was enjoyable. The large fire in the centre of the lounge bar was a welcoming central feature in spring. There is lot's to do in the surrounding area. Wenlock Priory and Ludlow castle are well worth a visit as are Bridgnorth and the Museums dotted around Ironbridge Gorge. There is an RAF museum at nearby Cosford. Plenty of nature walks and shopping in nearby towns and countryside. A good base for drives out." (1997657)
The surrounding area is historical and beautiful.
The signage in the hotel was tacky.

"Accommodation was clean, comfortable with reasonably up-to-date decor. Bar and restaurant area was charming and cosy with an open log fire. Food in both areas were very good. Staff were very friendly although a bit unsure at times, so checking in took rather a long time ! Only a few minor disappointments - quite a few lights weren't working, the heating didn't come on in the morning in one room and they weren't able to cater for wheat free breakfasts despite prior notification. Good value for money in a charming location." (1833268)

"It's a very friendly, informal hotel with a lot of plusses. There is a bit of road noise as it happens to be on a busy junction, however this quietens down significantly after about 11-30 pm. It's extremely handy for a beautiful small town, yet at the fringe of it so you could almost be out in the country." (912972)
