"We enjoyed the stay and the wedding reception. Function rooms were good as was the food and service. We did not use the room service but it did look quite expensive." (97314982)
Nice spot and staff were friendly and efficient.Breakfast was good.
Quite expensive for what was available. We thought that although the rooms were clean and tidy that they were beginning to look a bit tired.

"We would go back again at some later date but would try to do so during the week next time." (108012578)
Lovely location very handily placed for our little tour round Forest of Dean and surrounding areas. Excellent food, rooms adequate.
It seems to cater for weddings more so than general customers and the breakfast on the Sunday was a little squashed. With the weather being unduly hot the rooms were difficult to get cool without airconditioning.

Friendly staff; clean, well-kept rooms
Poor shower pressure; noisy people staying in neighbouring room - need to insulate the walls!

"This hotel is a great deal for the price. The amenities and smaller things (furniture, fixtures), make this a 4-star hotel. The size of it brings it to a 3 1/2. Everyone there was very pleasant and helpful. If you can, venture out to Cheltenham for shopping and meals." (97337864)
Staff was warm and pleasant. Bathroom was clean and nice. Dining facilities were excellent, with very attentive waitstaff.
Room and hallways quite small. Breakfast was mediocre. They strangely took ketchup that had been placed in a small dish from my table to another table to re-use.

very little - it was small, had a wall that was radiating heat via an internal chimney from the kitchens mean't I could not shut the window due to the extensive heat and hence the disco on kept me awake till 01.00. The hotel staff were very good but the hotel did not come any where near the publicised standard on the website a great disappointment.

"very dissapointed that room was extremely noisy late at night. noise coming from function room and woke us from sleep and went on till early hours. we were offered an alternative room but being that it was very late we diclined offer. felt we should have been informed at time of booking regarding possible noise. manager/s dealt with our complaint to our satisfactory." "The trip was excellent. The accomodations were about what we expected and the people were very friendly. The rooms were not large, but larger than some we have stayed in in London. We really were only in our room to sleep - the rest of the time we were touring the countryside. The beds were a bit uncomfortable, but other than that it was nice and the beautiful country setting can't be beat." (99277071)
The setting was beautiful.
The beds (twins) were rather uncomfortable.

"i found my stay to be nice and restfull the food was good but i do think the bar was a little bit on the expensive side other than that i would always stay there when down in that park of the country and i would recommend this hotel to anybody needing a hotel down in the cotswolds" (99392823)
lovely hotel and the staff were nice and friendly
the only thing i could find to complain about was the fact that my room needed dusting also we asked for rooms where we could smoke the hotel was not full yet we were given non smoking rooms

"Generally a really pleasant stay. The access from the main road to the parking lots could be improved, and the signage made more obvious - twice we drove past the entrance before we actually saw the sign for the hotel." (99481263)
Quiet, lovely location in building with great character.
We think the building may have a ghost or poltergeist ! At 3.00 am the smoke alarm went off and the TV switched itself on. There was no smoke or other signs of a problem, and there was no-one outside the room, so we returned to sleep , but the incident remains a mystery !

"Although the hotel is now begining to look a little dated it was clean and the staff where very obliging and could not do enough for you. The service was also excellent in the restaurant with a good variety of dishes and wines. There was a wedding going on in the hotel on the saturday of our stay but it did not detract from the service in any way and once in our rooms no music or noise could be heard. My only suggestion would be that if a hotel accepts dogs it has a bin outside to place doggy poo bags !" (3304915853)
It accepted dogs

"Althought the staff were friendly, the taxi we asked to be booked never arrived and when we went a little over the check out time we were told abruptly that 'you need to leave the room'." (3305110638)
The room was comfortable and clean.
The hotel seemed over booked and very loud due to 3 wedding reception taking place. The once beautiful country house did not retain any of its original charm on the inside, and the outside was spoilt by ugly extensions.

"The hotel was fine in general. The check-in staff were very friendly but a bit hurried. The room was exceptionally well-appointed and very clean indeed, but it was unfortunate that neither the room nor the restaurant was air conditioned. The restaurant also appeared to have only two tables near a window. We dined elsewhere as a result. The room service breakfast was first class however. There was a wedding at the hotel, which caused a certain amount of noise, but this appears to be the norm at weekends these days." (3305030055)
The room was exceptionally clean

"Very noisy party till 1am ~ might have booked elsewhere as we wanted to enjoy next day and were too tired BUT that was just bad luck. May be bookings for parties could stipulate midnight as winding down time in respect to the other guests. Would have preferred to deal with hotel direct so that we had a choice of rooms. However, staff reallocated us to the best available room on arrival, without being asked." (3304796308)

"My friend who accompanied us was on a special deal but we had no knowledge of special offers from the website where we booked. The hotel tried to accommodate us with a quiet room as we had requested, unfortunately the guests at an 18th birthday party on the Friday were noisy outside the hotel and we were woken up at 3.30am by guests from a wedding party on the Saturday night." (3304012759)
Subtle are deco style rooms. Clean, well designed. Staff were a delight especially in the restaurant.
Breakfast was a little expensive, but the choice was good and the food freshly prepared.

The hotel looked lovely with the Christmas decorations up and there was plenty of parking spaces (which makes a change!!). The room was lovely and very clean. The evening meal was superbe.
Not enough sugar sachets in the room - a few more would have been nice.

room 227 was noisy during the night because it must have been cited near to a boiler house leaflets of places to visit in the room would have been helpful On one occasion only one set of towels was left and the complimentary tea/coffee etc was not replenished.

"Staff were friendly and most helpful. The restaurant surroundings were very pleasant and the dinner, although of limited choice, was well served and presented. Breakfast was excellent. A wedding party was held on one of the nights stay but it caused no disturbance to us whatsoever. The hotel is situated in an attractive / rural type area but still close to many other amenities. We enjoyed our weekend stay." (2881996)
Newly refurbished decor was impressive.

just a fine hotel
there was a very noisy wedding party going on during two nights of our stay. If that is known to the staff they should have given us rooms in the quiet part of the hotel. In general the staff was friendly but very unexperienced which was in a few occasions barely acceptable.

The refurb has been done well and the decoration of the hotel is good.
Lack of detail in several areas spolit the stay somewhat. Cold white wine for evening meal, poor morning service in the restaurant and a slow check-out. Should improve on these areas.

"Overall my stay was fine (I only required 1 night & dinner). But would not stay again because of the standard of the food" (107216573)
I felt that the food in the restaurant did not reach the same standard as the rest of the hotel. My steak (medium rare) was stringy & tough (& also required a surcharge).
