"Hotel okay but a bit overpriced even at a discount rate. Recently refurbished but didn't see much evidence of this. Staff pleasant and helpful. Needs an overhaul in furniture and fittings to match other local hotels" (107174542)

Central, breakfast hot, plenty of choice.

Room and bedroom floor level fumey, possibly from cars/vans. Executive room used but not really in that bracket. Had to recheck on room allocation when first checking in as was given just a double room by mistake. No car parking. Shower quite cantankerous and difficult to work

"Will not recommend it, will definetely not stay there again." (107186672)

Close to university, breakfast was good.

Room was obviously "work in progree". Phone not connected, carpet and fittings not fully fitted, for example taps were loose and hanging. One light could not be switched on, another could not be switched off. Elevator made a horrendous (loud) drilling noise well into the small hours that woke me every time it was operated.

"Very courteous staff, which made all the difference. The breakfast waitresses were also quite polite. As stated previously, the Asain guy on reception was very professional and courteous when he checked me in around 11.30pm on Mon, 15th Sept." (107210428)

The Asian guy on reception was polite, professional and very helful. Next time, I visit I will get his name and forward my comments directly to the management of the hotel. Very central location, just 10 minute walk to Sheffield station. There is also a nice Chinese buffet almost next door to the hotel. The bathroom was very clean, the bed was also clean with the cosiest pillows I've experienced in a long while.

The doors in the corridors slam loudly, so you hear the noise everytime someone is heading to/from their rooms.

Lovely furnished room, wonderfull pillows and bed, very important. fab shower.

Small and hot room. Breakfast not too great the cup of tea was awful. The dining area for breakfast was very dated in comparison to the rooms.

"My adult son and myself, (his mother) arrived at the hotel to find that they had no record of our booking so we had to share a twin bedded room. There was no kettle as there was a problem with the electrics. As we were there for the snooker, we arrived back to our room at 10.30pm to find that our key-card would not work and after several unsuccessful attempts the manager had to use his key and told us if we needed to leave the room again we would have to get a staff member to let us in. We were not too happy." (97041790)

"The public hotel areas are slightly run down and would benefit from an update, but the rooms are well appointed and clean. There were some differences in temperature between different areas (bathroom very warm and couldn't switch the heater off, bedroom cold because the window was open and was too high to close). Overall, the hotel is well located, staff are friendly and didn't lack for anything." (97806766)

Small hotel in a quiet back street right in the center of town. Currently being upgraded since the quality of the room was excellent and much better than a previous stay nine months ago. Nice bar and beakfast room. Very helpful staff. Overall very good value for money and much better priced than other hotels in Sheffield, especially for those who don't intend to spned much time in the hotel.

Nothing to dislike on this visit.

"After reading some of the other reviews we were not expecting the excellent rooms we had which were tastefully decorated to a very high standard. A very enjoyable stay in the centre of the city." (97034569)

Very friendly staff at reception and excellent room

    More staff needed at breakfast

  • 9/10 Chris ( Mature couple)

"A clean, comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. All facilities fully adequate and generally very good value for money. Excellent location for city sights, theatres and restaurants." (97555270)

    Excellent location, value for money

Hopeless instructions to drive to it. Very easy to find from ring road, but impossible to find through the city streets. Breakfast in restaurant was much better than when served in the bar.

"Great breakfast choice. Handy location and appreciated the discounted parking. The first impression of the foyer was not great, a little shabby did not do justice to the standard in the room." (97366805)

Decent size for a single room, clean.

Next to the stairs so lots of noise all night.

  • 9/10 Kay ( Group of adult friends)

"I have no complaints about this hotel- the staff were so helpful when I got lost in the city centre en route, and the room was very comfortable with a lovely big bathroom. The bar is open late and the place has a lovely relaxing atmosphere. I wasn't able to take advantage of breakfast sadly, but I will next time I visit!" (97544229)

Lovely room- the huge bed was very impressive! Wished I could have stayed in it longer!

  • 10/10 Wendy ( Mature couple)

from Orpington , GB  on  February 13, 2008

"The hotel is in the centre of Sheffield which meant on the positive side it was a short walk from the station and an even shorter walk from the trams. The only down side was that being a weekend there was noise from outside when people left pubs and clubs. This was only to be expected and hardly the hotels fault." (97759399)

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was huge! Wide and varied selection for breakfast which was cooked to order. Liked all the channels on the large LCD television. All in all excellent value for money.

"Site states some parking on site but in reality there isn't - reliant on nearby NCP which is very busy." (97450559)

Clean room, good reception service. Room reasonably appointed, good TV reception and free WIFI.

No cold water for 1st 30 minutes! No car parking & nearest NCP was full so had to pay £11.50 to park overnight. Service at breakfast was poor. Carpet on stairs threadbare. WIFI was on unsecured site.

  • 8/10 John ( Mature couple)

from Doncaster , GB  on  December 19, 2007

"The only small niggles were the noisy alleyway, but this is no real surprise in the centre of a busy city - (keep the windows closed!), and the cold bar which (in December) rather took the edge off the late-night relaxation. A fresh coat of paint in the room might help the overall impression, but the good points outweigh the bad, and we would be happy to stay here again." (97839071)

Central location. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Late bar.

Noisy alley outside the room. No heating in the bar.

  • 9/10 Susan ( Other)

"The hotel was conveniently situated and very pleasant. We all ate in the bar in the evening and the food very good with large portions. We were able to leave our baggage during the day which was a great help. Overall I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a good hotel in Sheffield city centre." (97161262)

The bar food was very good with ample quantities.

Bathroom door was difficult to shut.

"very good hotel, excellent staff, good simple facilities. I have stayed in the cutlers several times, and have no problem returning there" (97790094)

had some trouble with the facilities, that was quickly and well dealt with by the staff, who were all friendly

difficult to control the temperature in the room

  • 7/10 Norbert ( Solo business traveller)

from Budapest , HU  on  October 26, 2007

"The hotel is situated near to the heart of the city, with close access to the railway station and the public transportation. The interior of the room shows an interesting mixture of the nice new furnitures and the old, very used carpets, bathroom. The room is tried to keep clean, but the general appearance has a 'ready-to-refurbishment' feeling." (97714370)

The performance of the hotel staff was really excellent. There was a big LCD TV in the room. The bed was comfortable.

There was a door between the next room and mine, so the noise insulation was zero. The condition of the bathroom was quite poor. The washstand was outside of the bathroom. The breakfast area was quite limited considering the number of the rooms in the hotel.

  • 9/10 Laurent ( Solo business traveller)

The bed is very comfortable, you get big screen digital TV and free broadband access, the staff could not be more helpful.

The bathrooms need freshening up, service at the restaurant could be quicker.

The disturbing external noise of lorries in the early hours

It was clean on the surface...clean sheets etc though we had a broken shelf in shower which was taped up, none of the corners under the shower doors etc had been properly cleaned and all the paint was crumbling off the windows...oh and the lift is very noisy so never got much sleep. Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times..well done. A fair price for a city centre stay with no frills." (97518329)

Very easy to get to and very central at a fair price.

Needed a spruce up, a lick of paint wouldnt go amiss
