Room excellent. It was large and had beautiful views.

Breakfast: Cereal, breads and fruit great but thought cooked English breakfast was not very tasty. I would prefer quality food (tasty sausages etc) rather than quantity (It was huge!)

"Receptionist didn't acknowledge our presence until another member of staff arrived. She was dealing with somebody else but completely ignored us. Newspapers were ordered for both days - as part of our booking. Didn't arrive either day and no apologies or refund. Bed side lamp didn't work. We had to change it with the desk light and this was not noticed and rectified. No apologies for this either. Ceiling light was almost worse than useless. Construction of building we were in was not good. Could hear the other guests and babies through the walls. Waited 25 minutes for breakfast after ordering. One good bit was the bar man who was efficient and welcoming." (99785513)

Location was good. Bed was comfortable. Bottled water supplied. Sky TV.

Staff sloppiness. Poor lighting in room. Noisy guests in our building.

Spaciousness, views, a country house atmosphere affording an excellent retreat for personal or group reflection.

The organisation must arrange safety rails in the bathrooms. I anticipate serious problems if this is not attended to.

"The hotel offers comfortable accomodation at a good value price and the staff are pleasant. We have found the hotel to be one of the best in the area and have stayed there a few times. But, on the last two occasions there has been either a wedding or a Christmas Party, which we have not been warned about, and we have found that staff are over stretched looking after the wedding or Party to the detrement of service to other 'ordinary' guests." (99253423)

Hotel is set in a quite location, but close to motorway links. Hotel offers above average accomodation at a reasonable price

We were not warned in advance that there would be a Party being held in the hotel, with very loud music running until 1a.m. Shortage of staff to look after guests that were not with the Party.

"On arriving at the hotel we found it difficult to locate entrance and reception due to building work, we were not made aware of this at time of booking. A light was not working in our bedroom and alerted reception and was told it would get immediate attention. Several of the boxes in the bathroom containing soap etc were empty. At about 8.30 pm we went to the bar and asked for a bottle of wine that was on the blackboard above the bar this could not be found and choose another. We went into the lounge and were later joined by a group of about seven youths who were shouting, being very loud and using very colourful language they were joined at times by female members of staff who sat down and joined them. They were all stomping about between the lounge and reception it was quite unbearable at times there was no one to inform as they seemed to be the only members of staff on duty and they were the ones making all the noise with their friends. On returning to our room the light was still not working. I informed reception the following morning and was told there was a problem with it and would be fixed that day. It would of been nice to of been told instead of having to ask. That evening we asked again for the wine advertised and were told to take a seat while it was located after 10 mins we were advised it could not be found and choose another. The follwing morning at breakfast the wine was still being displayed ! It was a nice gesture to receive a comp newspaper but it would of been nicer if it had not been clearly read by other people first ! I have stayed in hotels all over the world and have to say it was the most unproffesional establishment i have ever stayed in." (99610008)

Away from main building, espscially with a wedding on, even though we were with the wedding party.

A very very very steep slope, that became slippy with the rain. I didn't feel very safe at all walking up or down the slope.

The hotel from the outside is gorgeous but it needs a bit of a tidy up in the common areas inside, especially the conservatory where breakfast was taken.

"First impressions are great and the staff are good, but I was surprised to see that there were paint marks on the new carpets in and around my room. There were dead flies on the floor in the bathroom, and I could see lots more in the ceiling light fitting. The room (and bathroom)was very clean and the flies had probably only died that day. Also there was no hot water in my room in the morning. A business associate who was also staying in the hotel also had no hot water. He did complain to reception. However,I would stay at this hotel again, as I feel there may just be a reason for the situations listed above. I've heard that there was a kitchen fire recently which caused some damage, so maybe that's had a short term effect, so I would like to stay again and see that these things no longer exist. Summer views must be great." (3304441928)

Like location, stunning view, lovely building and gardens

lack of investment over last 20 years, however was reflected in price. Staff training regarding management of their time, ineffective management of breakfast arrangements/orders, should really provide a hot buffet service as staff numbers are to be so low and poorly trained, very slow table service/incorrect orders to just about every table (amusing/but also ridiculous and wasteful)

lovely setting overlooking the moors around Padiham in Lancashire. Unfortunately there was a wedding reception which had taken over the majoroty of the hotel of which we had not been informed. We were put in a lodge room where neither the main light or dressing table light worked, there was only one pillow and one bath towel. The shower curtain was so flimsy that the bathroom all but flooded. There was an air about the staff as if they were fire fighting the whole time.

Check in was poor because, although I had an Active Hotel reservation number the staff knew nothing about me. Various reasons were provided - lack of fax, missed phone call. Eventually check done although the price went up by a £1 from that shown on-line! Don't like having to eat in the bar. Bar staff good and friendly; others less so. Room very comfortable and food good value for money." (1700236)
