"Very old hotel. Friendly atmosphere. Helpfull staff." (97772854)
The staff were very helpful and friendly, exellent service. The breakfast was tastful.
Smell of old (and new?)sigarettsmoke in non-smokingroom(s). Cleanliness of the hotel could be better. The order of the bathroom/toilet could also be better.

"On my arrival at around 2.50 in the afternoon, there was no access to the hotel. The door was locked, no-one answered the bell, and no-one answered the phone. Once I gained access (around 4.00pm) I really disliked the smoky atmosphere, which was evident even in the bedroom. I found the hotel owners rather surly and unhelpful." (97883626)
A very good location, in the centre of a most attractive small town.
Apalling smoky atmosphere in the lobby, stairs and bar areas - obviously stale smoke from a couple of years ago.

"I enjoyed my stay - they are a very friendly and accomodating couple - and shall almost certainly be back. Once all the necessary building work is done and the place is returned to its former state it should be lovely." (99943225)
Welcoming, comfortable, unflappable, GOOD food (and plenty of it!)

"If you are looking for a 4 star hotel in a cosmopolitan city then the Caledonian isn't what you want but if you are looking for warm Scottish hospitality then this charming hotel has it in abundance. You feel like you've known them for years. It was the best night's sleep we had in Scotland." (99344888)
It was like staying at your aunt and uncle's in the middle of a hectic vacation. The Owner's were very warm, helpful and accommodating.

"The hotel was an unassuming place in a beautiful location. We really enjoyed the laid back bar and talking to the locals. The dinner individually cooked for us despite our late arrival was excellent and the breakfast next morning equally so. The rooms were modestly appointed but more than adequate, comfortable and very clean. The friendly personal service was what impressed us the most." (99480224)

"Our first reaction on arriving was to turn around and walk back out due to decor/smell but we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn't have, none of us could sleep all night and we didn't dare eat the breakfast we had paid for. The dog smell and dog hairs put us off." (107228512)
Owners were very welcoming, open and friendly.
Overall decor shabby at best, Strong dog smell was unbearable. The lounge wasn't useable due to the smell and dog saliva all over the place on seats etc.

"The owners Iain and Kathy couldnt do enough for you.We could have breakfast anytime(Not a set time, like most hotels). It was very relaxing and informal. One thing we didnt know until we saw the tarif notice was that if we didnt have breakfast they would do us a packed lunch,(which yet again we'd never been offered again).Iain and kathy would chat to you very openly and were very generous hosts in the evening at their bar.i joined in with locals for Dominoes and all the local gossip.my partner chatted away the night chatting to Kathy and stroking one of their lovely natured dogs. They gave us pointers of where to go when we said we were heading in certain directions and we saw a lot more than what we thought we'd see. We would easily recommend staying here for an informal time and relaxed atmosphere. We will stay there again. CHEERS IAIN and KATHY (oh and ASHA (our Polish Chambermaid ))" (3304726974)
we were very surprised to be up-graded to a family room as we were a couple (at no extra cost),so we had a sitting room as well as an on-suite bath/shower and toilet.all of which was cleaned each day.it was to the back of the hotel,so was very quiet away from the road outside thefront.it was also lovely and warm without having to heat it.

"The accomodation was (as others have commented) in need of renovation and a lick of paint, but it was clean, relaxing and centrally located in the town. What does one expect for a 300 year old building? Maybe not a place for those who like extremes in luxury." (3304441724)

"I do not normally take the time to fill these things in but I feel compelled to do so to encourage others to give the Caledonian a try. If, as I have suggested, a few basic issues are addressed in terms of the upkeep of the place then the experience would be second to none I am sure. The friendly welcome of the owners (and the excellent and plentiful breakfast) make it worth a visit even before this." (2806747)
Very much a family atmosphere. Both oweners were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The room was perfect for a home from home feel in keeping with the area.
The hotel is old and it looks it. Of course so it should but some investment is needed to bring it back to it's former glory. Apparently work is imminent to achieve this and if I am ever back in the area I will definitely pop by in the hope of a pint in the downstairs bar (which, currently not in use, is clearly a wonderful experience when operational)

"The staff are very friendly and went out of their way to help, however I feel that the establishment is understaffed. The hotel owner works long hours and achieves a remarkable amount in the time and for £50/night including a huge breakfast plus as much coffee as you can drink this hotel gives good value for money. The hotel is also ideally placed for touring northwest Scotland with good road access to the west and north. There is on street parking but because of the close proximity of other premises, shops etc., it is sometimes not readily available. The bar was well used by local people which is generally a good indicator of a hotels' popularity. There does not appear to be many tourist attractions in Beauly itself but the recently established Fiddle Festival should help to promote the town and the hotel provides a comprehensive tourist information pack in the bedrooms which is very helpful. Overall, a very pleasant stay. We will go again." (2860771)
The beds were very clean and comfortable, the bathroom was adequate and the food was good.
This is an old building badly in need of extensive refurbishment and cleaning in the public areas. It is not a hotel which is suitable for disabled persons. The furnishings and fittings are old and long past their sell by date especially the art deco furniture in the bedrooms. The hot water system eventually ran hot but it took a long long time.

"Very friendly hotel and if you are a nature lover having a relaxing drink in the lounge and looking into the bird garden is fantastic, doves, sparrows and numerous others all feeding away in the bird boxes and shrubs wonderful to watch. The hotel is found in the heart of the town and if you wish to know any of the local history or places of interest to visit just ask the owner. To sum up true Highland hospitality" (2676268)
The owners are such nice people very friendly. The breakfast you get is second to none, put many larger hotels to shame.
The decor could be doing with a face lift but nothing major.
