Friendly staff
Bed mattress worn out and uncomfortable. Limited and basic menu for evening meal. Would liked to have seen a draught real ale or bottled English Ales available in the bar

"Very sorry but we will not be staying at your hotel again and unfortunately we would not recommend you either." (97759490)
Staff at reception were your saving grace in the end as they made available another room for my colleague as we ordered a twin room but one of the beds was a Z bed not what I expect at the price you charge per night and to expect an adult to sleep on a z bed for two nights was inexcusable
As above very disappointed that you would find it acceptable for an adult to sleep on a z bed at full rate for the two nights. We both own hospitality companies and we found the staff and service at breakfast particularly poor in service and attitude we found we had to constantly ask for items such as a cup for coffee, toast, glasses for fruit juice and butter at no time did she come to the table to enquire as to our needs. We actually felt we were disturbing the lady rather than for her to be of service to us.

"Sorry but wont stay here again unless renovated. Staff definitely very friendly but facilities shabby." (108088552)
friendliness and willingness to help of staff, pleasant and modern bar area. close to train station. nice cooked breakfast. room and hotel were clean despite the problems detailed below.
The main problem was that the hotel needs a good renovation. Dingy carpets and corridors, extermely uncomfortable hard bed and unpleasant blankets. Shower thermostat dial stuck at 48*C - scorching hot with no alternative as the bath is run on same mixer tap - but needed the shower v late at night and was in no situation to have phoned down for a repair man. Requested room that had never been smoked in, and double checked it on arrival, but the musty smell made it obvious it was once smoked in, also were no 'no smoking' plaques on the rooms at my end of the corridor. Lift v juddery and old - thought it was about to fail each time we used it. Defintely not worth £80/night, in fact I think we deserve money back and will be lodging a formal complaint.

all aspects of the stay was good, excellent breakfast, staff very polite and helpful.
we took the only room available to us, unfortunatly for my wife and i it was a twin room when we would have preffered a double room. But it was a late booking and there was a wedding in the hotel.

"Overall the hotel was clean and tidy - we had been made aware that it had recently been 're-furbished' whether this was just the bedrooms I'm not sure, but some areas looked as though they had been 'missed out' (the lift door for example). A good selection for breakfast the first morning, however my husband had to point out to a member of staff that all the portions of margarine on our table expired on February 6th! We were thanked for pointing this out, and all the tables had the margarine portions (and butter) removed, and replaced. Breakfast the second morning was chaos - a lot more guests, and a lot of the food had/was running out. This meant there were people who had plates with only half of what they required (going cold) while they waited for replenishments. The tea and coffee also ran out, and there were no spoons on any of the tables to eat cereals with - I went to help myself from their cutlery drawer at the back of the restaurant. On our first night there was a wedding party - and the music finished at just after midnight - we were above the function room, as mentioned, on the first floor at the back. What made us smile about this was my husband had specifically asked if this was a quiet room when we checked in, we were assured it was! The second night it was a 50th birthday party - music for this finished at just after 1.00a.m. The TV didn't work,- we were advised all the TV's on the 1st floor had a specific process to acces them, so why didn't they put this in the rooms to advise guests? We reported the plug in the washbasin as faulty, and were assured it would be looked at, it wasn't. This particular hotel wasn't our first choice - others in that particular location could not accommodate us - and as we were visiting friends we didn't want to be too far away from them." (97966002)
The room was clean.
It was at the back of the hotel, right above the function room/s - very noisy both nights.

On Saturday morning, it looked as the hotel wasn't prepared for the number of people who wanted breakfast, i.e. there weren't enough plates, not enough seats and there wasn't enough bacon. On Sunday morning everything was back to normal, even very good.

"Pleasant stay but restaurant very unorganised on Sunday morning (breakfast). Long wait for breakfast items, ended up with scrambled egg, black pudding and mushrooms after a 15 minute wait. On Saturday evening (7pm) approx male member of staff swearing (loudly) in reception area and then arguing loudly with another member of staff outside???, no sign of any Manager!. The majority of the staff were excellent, let down by one or two and a distinct lack of Management presence." (97510868)

Breakfast was great, the bathrooms were lovely and the staff were friendly
The noise and banging of doors at 7am, I think the maids should make an effort to be quieter when there are guests staying for leisure. Also in this day and age, the bar licence should be extended to at least 12 midnite not 11pm. Most hotels I have stayed in have a licence till 1am, I missed having a nightcap after the P!NK gig ;-(

"I could not fault the Staff, they went out of their way to be helpful. The room was clean and well appointed with all the usual facilities you'd expect. The bed was rather hard and uncomfortable though. I was disappointed by the quality of the food. The bar menue was limited but reasonable value. The breakfast was not worth getting out of bed for. I was unable to find an area where I could eat without having to inhale second hand cigarette smoke (apart from in my room). For a leasure stay I would have no problem with the hotel, but being kept awake by noise from a function in the hotel is unacceptable. As a single person staying I do not think the £180 for two nights and one poor breakfast represents value for money." (99651160)
Clean, very helpful staff
Lumpy bed,a lot of noise from other guests, very poor breakfast: Cold black toast, poor selection of cooked breakfast items, Breakfast not early enough on Sunday. No smoke free area in the bar.I was kept awake by music from a function room until well after midnight when I had a hard day of work ahead of me.

"Would have expected a wider variety to the menu in the restaurant in the evening, but that which was served was fine. The young waitress on 'work experience' was extremely polite and was a credit to your hotel. It did seem a pity that she seemed to have been left alone to cope, but did an admirable job. Unfortunately I don't recall her name but she deserves a credit! Unfortunately the party crowd that were in the hotel on the same night as us held little respect for other guests in the hotel and held no shame with their 'car park' antics when they were in the process of leaving!!!" "Adequate for a very short stay but would not want to stay longer." (107272693)
The room was good and comfortable and the Bar meal we had was good - good choice of food and served quickly and hot.
Parts of the hotel were a bit run down (I believe there is some refurb. in process). We were disappointed that we could not use the advertised restaurant and, on 1 night, there was excessive noise until 1.00 a.m. from a wedding party.
