    Perfectly adequate for overnight stay.

Could do with having the cooked breakfast available a little earlier to co-incide with getting to the first aircraft leaving Edinburgh airport

"Central location is ideal and the hotel is good value for money. Very adequate for a short stay, especially if you get rooms facing the back as we did, instead of the busy street." (97409724)

Friendly staff, central location, good price, organisation at breakfast.

Window fixture broken meaning window could not be shut; hallway on way to room was hot and full of cooking smells due to a broken extractor which couldn't be fixed until after the weekend.

"If like us, you are planning to see a show, and go out for a meal this hotel is in an ideal location. It was clean but basic, which was adequate for our one night stay. If you were planning on staying for longer than a weekend I would look elsewhere as the room was not comfortable enough to spend any length of time in. It was however good value for money and extremely central." (97032834)

This hotel was in an ideal location in Edinburgh for shopping, restuarants and shows.

    The hotel only offered breakfast.

"Generally speaking the hotel provided every facility for which we could have wished. The two main areas which might have beeen improved were: 1. The TV in the room could have had more channels in this day and age. 2. We might have been offered a choice of view from the bedroom window. Otherwise a very comfortable stay and perfectly adequate for our needs." (97401493)

Conveniently sited to access the conference facility

no water pressure for the shower in both rooms that we had and the water temperature was not constant, it kept changing all the time.

  • 5/10 Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller)

"The single room provided was quite small, but adequate for an overnight stay. It was high and distant from the hotel entrance, had a damp patch on the wall and was in need of redecoration but the sheets were clean and in good condition; two good towels and soap were provided but no other toiletries. The shower-room (no bath) was small but clean. There was a long wait before hot water flowed to the shower in the evening but a supply was much quicker in the morning. The open shower door dripped water onto the floor - providing a towel to stand on would have been useful. Breakfast (taken at 8.00am) included choice of fruit juices and cereals, yoghurt, bacon, scrambled egg and beans, toast, tea and/or coffee." (97140114)

Fairly central location, about 10 minutes walk from the station.

Dilapidated decor of room; small size of room.

"within the price is full English breakfast but this is a breakfast consisting of only a small choice of cereals and only four items for the cooked breakfast,(one of these being a pancake?). obviously the hotel's chef does not have the same understanding of a full English breakfast as we do. also, this hotel does not like to use teaspoons - take your own (No teaspoons in the rooms with for making of the tea/coffee, niether were they anywhere within the breakfast room)." (97333449)

the hotel was pretty central for our needs

despite the fact our stay was in early March, there was no heating in our room. there were radiators, but for some reason no heat came out of them...

Where it was in Edinburgh in relation to my reason for being there. The price of a single bed. Could adjust the extraordinarily hot radiators to a cooler setting. Room was much quieter than I had feared it might be.

No 'on site' parking. Smell of hot oil / frying on the way to my room in the afternoon & to a lesser extent in the morning.

Size of the shower and the poorness of hot water coming out the shower tap.

The room was very large and the beds were very comfortable. Excellent shower, quite a lot of storage space, and brilliant views.

It didn't seem possible to turn the heated towel rail off in the bathroom so the bathroom got very hot, and the windows were open when we arrived and were very difficult to close, however these were the only negative points.

Location to sites and rail station. Room was good sized.

Smell and odor of local restaurant permeated the room and hallways. Left all of our items with the odor of fried food. Hallways were dark and unclean. Toilet did not flush adequately.

Staff were friendly and accommodating, holding my suitcase after I checked out, so I could enjoy the city without hassle." (97481739)

The room was very homely and comfortable, and excellent value for money - more than I expected!

I was unable to turn the radiator off (but slept with the window open without any inconvenience).

  • 6/10 Jeff (Mature couple)

from Newark , GB on  February 19, 2008

"Clearly the price charged here is what makes it attractive. The whole place has a somewhat tired feel; a good clean, some fresh paint and necessary repairs would make it even more attractive. Certainly, it is very well-placed for the centre of Edinburgh, approximately 15 minutes walk from Waverley Station and Princes Street, with a number of restaurants very close. If you don't mind the slightly jaded aspect of the actual hotel this is a good place to stay." (97167850)

    Comfortable, warm, cheap

En-suite had no mat for stepping onto when getting out of the shower, so stepping onto a slippery tiled floor, potentially dangerous. Heated towel rail did not work, so nowhere to dry towels. TV, kettle and vanity mirror were all placed on the window sill and so behind the window curtain. Closing the curtain, unless it was deliberately pushed behind these items, meant they were unavailable. Not much choice of food at breakfast.

price, easy to find, the service is good and its right in the centre of town

The only critism would be that the shower was poor.
