Its position close to the town centre was ideal, the view from our bedroom was the stunning castle, very quiet at night, very relaxing

The grouting in our bathroom needed a bit of TLC (room 5)

"we would like to have known if there were different (ie better) rooms available. The hotel could do with the presence of a manager as our arrival seemed to be dealt with by a waitress who could not find our booking. However, everyone was very friendly and with a bit of sprucing up the hotel could be very good." (99517979)

Very good bath with masses of hot water

Pokey little room. Not a very good quality bed. Cold bathroom with no form of heating.

"Good basic accommodation, more of a B & B standard than a hotel. Furnishing tired. Service business like, but could be friendlier." (99071132)

Close to Warkworth Castle. Our bedroom overlooked the Castle. Clean and central location for touring. Generous breakfasts.

Would have liked a few friendly comments. Staff seemed too busy to enjoy their work. For example it would have been nice to be asked if we had enjoyed our stay when we checked out.

"It suited us this time. I would not rule it out for future visits to the area but would definitely not book it for my (elderly) parents as they now need to be able to sit comfortably in supportive chairs and rest." (107220393)

The staff were very pleasant, helpful and polite. Although we only ate breakfast in the hotel, it was very good and we would have eaten an evening meal there if we had been in the vicinity at the time - our itinerary was busy, nothing to do with the hotels catering times. Everything worked in the room and I can't say that about every hotel I've stayed in! The hotel is very well maintained and clean, particularly considering that the building is old (and charming), which will make this more difficult.

Accomodation was a little cramped and basic for the cost; there were no seating areas for hotel guests other than the public bar which had firm seating and there were no easy chairs in the room, so it was not particularly inviting to stay inside. As we were busy this did not matter, but could be improved. The hotel did not have internet access - we were aware of this when we booked but it would be useful to install it.

"I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were welcoming, and the manager put himself out to help us complete checkout facilities early. The rooms (5 of us together, in 3 rooms) were of a very good standard, and all of us had a good view from their windows. The food was very good. Breakfast was enjoyable, and served courteously. The evening meal we had was excellent!! (no other word would do!) In terms of setting, the Sun Hotel also scores, being close by Warkworth Castle and the picturesque village. It is just the right size - not big enough to be soulless, but with enough room and facilities to give space to move around in. Only suggestion for improvement: get a new hall/staircase/landings carpet! Thanks to the Sun for a great stay." (3305449035)

We had a bar meal instead of using the restaurant and it was excellent. Breakfast was again excellent and compared favourably with breakfast taken recently at a hotel which was 4 star. The location of the hotel is ideal, being central to a lot of the attractions in that part of the country." (3305159348)

"Quality hotel in pretty village - good amenities. large car park. Clean, staff were pleasant =- bar stayed open late. Breakfast was nice and freshly cooked to order. There should be some advance warning about the size of the rooms. Ours was exceptionally tiny, yet others in our party had much larger rooms but we were charged the same rate. This spoiled things for us to some degree. The hotel refused to allow any discount when we asked. so we are going to complain to the Hotel Group." (3304401116)

Location in a pretty village. Pleasant staff, comfortable bar. Good size car park. clean rooms and common areas

Our bedroom. So small there was nowhere to sit down, place our cases or just put things. Bathroom so tiny that you could not sit on W>C> without jamming your knees against the shower screen. Door could not be opened without manouvering out of the way. Nowhere to put toiletries etc in bathroom so had to keep them on dressing table.

I did like the conservatory restaurant and liked the fact that you could get the bar meals in there as well as their menu. There was alot of variety for breakfast. The beds were very comfortable and our room was bright and airy. The check in and out was very easy and all the staff were most helpful." (3304724410)

The location was lovely opposite the castle yet close to the river and not far from the sea. Meant that you still got the cooling sea breeze. The room was very comfortable and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

There was nothing really to dislike. Although we did have a funny shower which continued to run water from the bath tap as well as the shower and the water temperature did not stay regulated. Apart from that little thing we were very happy.

"The hotel was easy to find, had plenty of parking, and was clean and tidy with friendly staff. It was not very modern in terms of decor or fixtures and fittings, but the rooms were a reasonable size and were comfortable and warm (with working windows and radiators so temperature adjustment was easy). The food was nothing fancy but was tasty and generous, and was served very promptly. I can't remember seeing the fire exit signs though (which I should have looked for but forgot!). Warkworth is a convenient place for reaching much of Northumberland, and Newcastle/Morpeth." (3304536142)

Friendly staff, lovely views (of castle or beach), clean rooms, tasty and well-cooked food.

My room was slightly noisy as it overlooked the street, but it's a small village so there was little late-night traffic. The shower was a bit awkward, and despite my best attempts with the curtain, sprayed all over the bathroom floor (just as well my clean clothes were not on the floor!)

"The hotel is set back from the road directly facing the castle in one of the most attractive villages in the area. It is an interesting period building reasonably well kept and clean, with spacious rooms, many with good views. Bathrooms are OK but could do with a bit of updating. It is one of a number of traditional pubs in the village which have the atmosphere of pubs rather than hotels, but together they give a number of options for drinking and eating within walking distance. Food is served in a conservatory, is good value, and is well presented with some local specials. Given the price it is a pretty good unpretentious and friendly hotel." (3304135778)
