"Overall an excellent stay in a very good hotel only marred by the unbelievably high bar prices, which clearly forced several guests out to the pub across the road." (108060133)

Friendly helpful and professional staff. Very good level of cleanliness in general. Excellent spa and fitness facilities.

The bed sheets were stained and had a hole in them.

"This was a good experience. This was probably the best hotel experience my wife and I have had in a long time, and it didn't cost the earth!" (97442997)

Friendly and efficient staff; excellent catering; airy and roomy feel about the hotel.

Only one minor point - I had to tell Reception that housekeeping had forgotten to clear away the significant remains of a room service meal; even this was cleared quickly after drawing attention to it.

"Could I suggest the use of a wheelchair may be of help to customers with walking disability. My mother who is 85 (and has heart problems) found it a very long walk from her room to the Spa and back. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay. Will probably return for our next family celebration." (107117115)

Excellent facilities and wonderful breakfast selection which can't be faulted. front desk staff very helpful on check in and helped print maps to find local shopping.

I booked 3 rooms altogether. Family members in 2 other rooms were 'pestered' on last day (in last 25 minutes) by cleaners to exit before 11am checkout. We also thought the bar prices were overpriced.

"We were generally pleased with the hotel except we thought that almost £10 for 4 cups of rather cold coffee served to us and our friends in the bar was poor value. This was also commented on by our friends who had come to meet us." (107152866)

We were unfortunately attending a funeral of a relative, who, ten years ago celebrated their Ruby Wedding at your hotel, which we had also attended. We found the hotel good then and were not disappointed, on the whole, on this occasion.

We think that better air extraction facilities in the bathroom/toilet would be an improvement. Obviously, the room did not have air conditioning either (ceiling fan in evidence) but this was not significant during our short stay.

"Very nice hotel and would recommend it to my friends" (97401210)

Restaurant was very good, the service and the food was good, and pleasant staff

Service in the food side of the leisure was slow, and felt that it could have been more organised

"we stayed for 2 nights with dinner included on the first night and breakfast both days for £150 .Dinner in the resturante was ok but if it had not been included in the price we would have not eaten there as we felt it was over priced they even chargged £2.10 for a childs fruit shoot drink which i think is over the top even for a hotel, however breakfast was very good. The hotel was lovely very clean and modern and the swimming pool is great. we were made to feel welcome everywhere even with our 2 year old daughter. Over all we would reccomend this hotel if you get a good internet deal on your stay ." (97885606)

the hotel was very impressive large room, nice bathroom,

Room service menu very expensive but you would probably expect this in a hotel chain like this.

"I was not fully satisfied with my stay as there were a series of small incidents relating to poor service and lack of attention to details. This made my stay very frustrating having to sort out a variety of little problems. I also felt like the staff were not fully commited to addressing and rectifying the problems, as i would expect when paying the rates asked. However, the hotel facilities are excellent!" (99516102)

The hotel is very well decorated and welcoming. All funishings are of top quality and the food is also of a superior standard.

Upon arriving in my room the bath was almost over flowing with dirty water following a leak.

The leisure facilities were excellent, with a good size swimming pool, sauna & steam room only the jacuzzi being on the small size. The changing room was bright, modern & clean and all thye lockers were of a good size with hangers and all fuctioned. Ver good spread at breakfast - really sets you up for the day. Staff on reception were helpful in recommending restaurants outside of the hotel. Overal a very pleasant stay and i have already recommended the hotel to colleague who has made a reservation.

"In the room 1. Door to bathroom jamming at bottom preventing closure 2. Extractor fan not working in same (although it was next morning) 3. Mini bar door jammed solid 4. Toilet bowl cracked and unsightly All these points are small BUT should be picked up prior to our arrival. Why cannot hotel management have regular checking of rooms systematically? It should not rely on the guest having to fill out a 'maintenance required' form. In far cheaper hotels I have seen checklists displayed in the room." (97134156)

Generally clean and well lit. Reception staff were friendly

Minor points in room tha should have been attended to by housekeeping prior to our even stepping into the room

  • 5/10 Joanne ( Solo business traveller)

    from Warrington , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 26, 2007

"The room would have been very pleasant if it had not been unbearably hot. When I checked out in the morning I was not asked anything about my stay at the hotel. The staff smiled as though they had been told to and there did not seem to be any genuine care for the customer. eg I saw people walking away from the bar because it took so long to get served." (99423747)

The room and bathroom were very pleasant if it had not been too hot to sleep.

The hotel room had a pipe running around the whole room and although the radiator was switched off the room was unbearably hot.I had not returned from a business meeting until 12.30 so it was too late to complain.

  • 9/10 Terry ( Mature couple)

    from Taunton , United Kingdom;GB  on  November 10, 2006

"We felt that there was a lack of choice on the dinner menu especially if some of the limited choice was not to your liking. The food was excellent but we stayed for four nights and began to become bored. A seven night stay and we would have been going elswhere for our evening meal. We were a little disappointed about the internet. The provision of high speed internet was one of the reasons we booked but the staff didn't seem to know what we should do and it appeared that the service was provided wholly by an outside source which you had to telephone to access. Other hotels we have stayed in previously of the calibre of this one provided the service free and in house. In conclusion these are areas for improvement rather than areas of complaint, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay." (99835208)

Difficult to give specifics everything was good.

Nothing except perhaps the rooms were on the warm side.

"Impressed with the accomodations tasteful and clean. Wouldn't use the restaurant if I restayed (wash the spinach - sandy!) Bar/lounge area very nice. Didn't realize that the children (ages 10 and 11) were not allowed to swim after 5pm - messed up our wear them out in the pool strategy but we adjusted. Just wish I had known ahead of time and could have made alternative arrangements. Not to worry they were first in after breakfast the next day. Happy with our stay and the bunkbeds were a hit - to quote awesome Thank you" (3305094287)

Size and condition of the family room was excellent. Love the central light switch by the door - very smart (and economical) One TV remote didn't work but not really an issue with the two TV's in the room.

The restaurant served an endive salad (with gorgonzola, pear walnuts) that had no endive in sight. A simple I'm sorry we're out of endive but have substituted with x is this fine or would you like to order something else would have been nice. This is what happens when the Warringtonian moves to New York and is asked for feed back - do apologize but was so looking forward to that bitter bite of endive. Moving on... The staff was very courteous but some of the wait staff need a little polishing - said only as constructive critisism as I'd take politeness and enthusiasm over rude efficiency any day. My son had to retrieve his plate as it was almost whisked away before he had finished eating. The children's menus were not forthcoming until asked for (was that a ploy or just an oversight :) Wine was lovely and after a glass and the departure of the children from the table all was well.

"THE BREAKFASTS WERE FABULOUS-LOVELY FOOD.THE OBJECTION WAS IT WAS ONLY SERVED TILL 9.30AM WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS QUITE EARLY DURING THE WEEK.WE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED IT TO BE UNTIL 10AM.ALSO WEEKEND WAS TILL 10AM WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TILL 10.30AM.WE DID FEEL A LITTLE AS IF IT WAS RUSHED AS WELL. THE FOOD AT DINNER WAS LOVELY AND THE ROOM SERVICE STAFF WERE VERY ACCOMODATING, NOTHING TOO MUCH TROUBLE!! I WOULD HAVE LIKE TO HAVE KNOWN THAT THE LEISURE CLUB WAS BEING RENOVATED AS THERE WAS NO SAUNA OR STEAM ROOM.THE POOL AND THE HOT TUB WERE GREAT THOUGH BUT THE CHANGING ROOMS WERE PORTAKABINS WHICH WERE A BIT DIRE!! THE ROOM WAS VERY WARM BUT THE WINDOWS DID OPEN,HOWEVER BEING ON THE GROUND FLOOR WE DID NOT LIKE TO LEAVE THEM OPEN AT NIGHT.THERE WAS NO OFFER OF A FAN! I WISH I HAD ASKED ABOUT INTERNET ACCESS PRIOR TO BOOKING AS I HAD TAKEN MY LAPTOP, BUT WHEN I CONNECTED TO THE PORT IT SAID IT WAS £8.00 FOR 2 HOURS INTERNET ACCESS WHICH I THOUGHT WAS EXPENSIVE AS I HAVE NOT HAD TO PAY AT OTHER HOTELS FOR INTERNET ACCESS. WE FOUND A GREAT FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT/PUB NEARBY WHICH WAS VERY REASONABLY PRICED AND A LOVELY PARK, BRILLIANT FOR CHILDREN CALLED WALTON HALL GARDENS.ALSO A FARM NEARBY WITH A MAIZE." (3305218447)

WE LIKED THE SIZE OF THE ROOM AND THE DECOR WAS LOVELY.THE DOUBLE BED WAS VERY COMFORTABLE.THE ROOM WAS VERY CLEAN AND CLEAN TOWELS EVERY DAY.

WE DISLIKED THE FACT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH HOOKS OR COATHANGERS.THE ROOM WAS QUITE STUFFY BEING TWO ADULTS AND TWO CHILDREN, AND NO FAN.

  • 8/10 Patricia ( Young couple)

    from Worksop , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 2, 2006

"I would recommend this hotel but be aware of the heat in the rooms which can be quite oppressive especially in the height of summer. So long as you don't mind that the rates we were offered meant it was excellent value for money. The refurbishments are nearly complete and are up to an excellent standard." (3305102604)

The hotel is currently being refurbished however the rooms, reception, bar and dining room are complete and are of a high quality. The breakfast was excellent.

As mentioned by other reviewers the lack of air conditioning in the rooms is quite a problem. The main public parts of the hotel are air conditioned and when you move to un-air conditioned parts the heat difference can be quite overwhelming. This led to a very hot, uncomfortable night. Many guests were commenting on this issue at breakfast. The spa is in the middle of a refurbishment and the changing areas are temporarily located in rather scruffy portacabins.

Nice location. Nice room. Nice facilities.

Closers on fire doors in corridor did not soften shutting of doors. Fire door outside room slammed every time it was used. Woke several times during the night and as room was next to the gym there was constant slamming from 0630.
