"The room had no heating apart from a small noisy portable blower heater which couldn't be left on all night; kettle, hairdryer, light above the mirror all not working. It was a smoking room with no ashtray; 2 cups but only one saucer; no remote control for the TV; curtains hanging off the rail; shower/bath handle broken; unreliable hot water supply. The general state of the room ensured that my two days were not a pleasant experience and even though the price was cheap, it was clear that there is minimum ongoing room maintenance." (97418428)

    The price

My room had too many faults and the hotel is on a busy road; as the double glazing was inadequate the traffic noise was awful.

Clean with plenty of space.Bed linen and towels were lovley and white.

    Could have been more pillows.

    The exit out

The bed was broken, the carpet was full of cigarette burns and chewing gum, the breakfast was horrid and a waste of money, the sheets smelt of chip fat and one of the walls in the room was covering in what looked like spit.

"Not the prettiest hotel and in a fairly run-down area, but everything was fine and is in a good position to get into the city centre by rail. Ok as a base for visiting family." (107162449)

    good value at last minute

noisy room. Had to give full debit card details 3 times: once on internet to book, once on arrival at the hotel, and again on departure. Do they really need these details more than once?

Easily accesable from main route. Rooms good size, breakfast service quick

Check in took three people to sort because I had made a change to the room requirements the week before, it seemed to confuse them. Service at bar was poor, same staff who operate front desk, kept waiting, didn't even know how to operate TV. Hotel had a rather run down feel with bars/lounges not open, restaurant shutting by 9.15pm despite being told it served until 10pm. Not what i would expect from major chain.

"Comfortable room, friendly staff, slightly noisy overall value for money" (107132323)

Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and spacious.

The receptionist didn't inform me that my room key needed to be inserted to a hoder for the lights to work and as a result I had to use my phone and the tv for lighting until I had figured it out. That would have been helpful information to be given on arrival. Room was right next to the main road and so was noisy.

"I would have liked to have received a map showing where the hotel is located in relation to NEC. Also, would have liked to see a picture of the room & restaurant as well as reviews from previous visitors." (97073043)

Basic but clean accommodation. Facilities in room fair - equipment in good working order and liked the fact that tea/coffee making facilities were provided in the room.

The restaurant facilities were very basic, lacked atmosphere and the food was only fair.

The hotel was such good value for money that I expected it to be a bit of a state but I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that it was nice and clean with friendly staff and spacious rooms.

I can't find anything bad to say about it.

Long wait for service at the bar

"When booking I indicated that I had some knee problems so I was given a 'disabled room'. No problem with that! BUT if I had really been disabled, I would not have been able to reach the central heating controls, there was nowhere to put my wash bag contents in the ensuite, the sink was just about large enough to wash my hands. The tap was a farce - difficult to get hot water from it and it sprayed water out so that if I had been slow moving I would have been soaked - highly embarassing as I was on my way to work 'smartly dressed'!! This suggests that the hotel plays lip-service to the needs of disabled guests. Good shower though! I stayed here a while ago in a standard room - everything was fine there." (97530924)

Helpful staff, as far as they could be. Clean. Good restaurant sevice and good food.

    The so-called disabled room!

The evening meal was brilliant. The waitress was very friendly and helpful,10/10. Great value for money, shame we were the only one's in restaurant. At least we never had long to wait.

Getting to the room is like being a contestant on the Crystal Maze. On entering the room was very cold as no heating on. Nice double bed but no bath! Changed rooms to other side of hotel; nice bath but twin beds. Wires exposed on wall light fitting. Light above mirror not working. Constant humming noise from what must have been heating boiler below the room.

    The location was convenient

The rooms and hall smelt of smoke, their was no telephone in the room and the tv had poor reception. The restaurant had more things off the menu than on (coffee machine broken, steak not delivered, had to ask the chef if they had cream)

I asked to a 7am wake up call and didn't get it. I was therefore late for a business meeting which was very inconvenient. Aparently it waswritten in the 'book' but not followed through.

"Clean room, large, pleasant staff but a broken window and consequently lots of noise from the adjacent busy road, including at night-time." (97398148)

Plenty of parking, nice room, close to a rail station.

I find that in many hotels the windows are always broken or poorly sealed, leading to increased noise from external roads. This room was no exception, and had a broken and poorly sealed window.

from Belvedere , GB  on  September 28, 2007

"It was dreadful! There was just one member of staff covering both reception and the bar, so we waited ages to check in. The public areas were grubby and the carpet on the stairs was filthy and hanging off in places. The toilet seat in my room was on the floor! The weather had turned and the rooms were really cold but you couldn't turn up the radiator. The restuarant was unwelcoming and had a very basic menu - some of which was not available. They couldn't even do an Irish coffee. I wouldn't stay there again even if I was paid to do so." (97778109)

The power shower and the smooth, soft bedding were the only things that were good about the accommodation.

Grubby public areas, only one member of staff covering reception and bar; inadequate heating in the bedrooms; toilet seat on the floor! Tissue box empty. Shower gel dispenser empty.

    good size room

the shower was in need of desperate attention and the room was quite stuffy - however opening a window wasn't really an option as there was a footpath and main road directly outside. Some sort of fan / air-con is needed.

"I chose not to have breakfast in restaurant as the 1st morning I stayed there were no croissants, you had not run out there were never any to start with. If you have an A'la Carte menu you should have a decent house wine. Your house white was foul, although the drinks menu was varied many of them were not available. The staff were pleasant, but they were clearly understaffed. I and many other quests were left waiting at reception several times, whilst the receptionist served drinks in the bar. we could not be seen standing at the reception desk." (99714557)

Room was very clean, Decor good

although shower room was large, shower was of poor quality, the small sliding doors did not close. considering the size if the room a bath would fit. 2 lights in room had lamps missing despite telling reception they were not replaced during my 4 day stay. I was on the 1st floor meaning my window was accessable from the main street I reported that my window did not lock. Being a lone female This is important especially as on the sunday night I was woken by some drunk people banging on my window at 2:30 in the morning.
