Hotel beginning to look a bit 'down at heel' - needs a facelift really.

"Clean hotel but let down by the lack of air conditioning." (107110656)

The room was clean and the gentleman who greated us on reception was very welcoming and helpful.

On arrival the room was very warm, and upon return to the room after our evening out, the heat was unbearable, this led to no sleep at all for either of us and a very uncomfortable night for us both. The room temperature was such that we felt ill and couldnt face our breakfasts the following morning. Even with the window opened as wide as possible, there was no air circulating around the room. A fan or even better, an air conditioning unit would have made the world of difference to what turned out to be a very unpleasent stay.

"Next time, I would book a room that was not on the street side of the hotel. WiFI would be a plus and I would pay for that access. (The Richmond hotel next door had several WiFi nodes, which would be a great convenience.)" (108025777)

This is an older hotel with a certain quaintness. For basic tourist accomodations, it is fine. Clean rooms and good hospitality. Great location. Short walking distance to Richmond attractions and the train station to London (both the underground and the Rail system).

Noise from the side road was awful. Since there is no air conditioning and the windows were open, the road noise was constant and went from early am to quite late at nite.

"Adequate, but due only to good breakfast." (97277396)

Breakfast was good with good service.

Inadequate noise insulation between my room and public staircase. Noisy ventilation system. Room door rattled too much when closed. Carpets worn, need replacing in many areas. Reception unatended when we checked out. Curtains in room falling away from track The hotel has a general run down appearance; needs a thorough refurbishment. The reception staff were far more concerned with handover between shifts than registering newly arrived guests

Prompt and helpful service and care had been taken to make sure small details were right.

Decor was a little oldfashioned - a bit 1980s - but there are a lot worse faults than that!

The whole place is extremely shabby and the shower did not work. It would be wrong of me to recommend this place to anyone." (97918657)

  • 2/10 David ( Young couple)

from Watford , GB  on  May 8, 2008

"Overall the hotel was terrible. We checked in with a friendly hello to the lady on reception and she didn't even look up let alone acknowledge us speaking. The hotel was very shabby and needed a lot of work. The rooms weren't much better and felt dirty, which was probably due to the general shabbiness of the room. We noticed very quickly that the radiator in the bathroom was left on and we couldn't turn it off. When we informed the unhelpful lady at reception she told us that someone might look at it but she didn't sound very convincing, it wasn't even looked at. We parked our car in the hotel's very small and crowded car park and left our keys at reception so it could be moved if other guests needed to get out but were still woken to move it early Sunday morning and told by the same unfriendly lady to move our car! I have never written in to review a hotel before but felt it necessary to do this time as our stay was so poor. We stayed one more night in Richmond the next night in another hotel of a similar price and had a brilliant stay." (97579748)

    Location

Lady at reception was rude and unpleasant. TV didn't work properly. Toilet didn't flush properly. Radiator was jammed on and we asked for it to be fixed but it wasn't even looked at. I was woken twice before 8.30am to move our car even though we left our keys at reception for this very purpose. Shower was very poor.

Bathroom and bedroom needed some attendance around decor as looking outdated and shabby, carpet didnt look very clean.

"The hotel was very conveniently only a few minutes walk from the railway station. The standard of cleanliness was very good although some refurbishment of the wall coverings would improve the overall appearance. The inclusive breakfast was of a good standard although the scrambled egg and bacon was a little over done for my taste. The information about the local amenities emailed ahead of our stay from the manager was very useful. I would definitely use the hotel again." (97618228)

The room was very clean and the comfort of the bed excellent. The double glazing was very efficient.

The Television was rather too small

Public areas including carpets or furniture worn and overdue for renovation. Staff were most helpful and obliging, and no criticism of them." (97455216)

I found the rooms need redecorated with tea spills on walls, lose tiles on bathroom floors, holes in bathroom walls. My shower was faulty, was offered a room change but the shower in the new room still only pumped steaming hot water(so I give up!). I will pay a small bit extra and stay at a better rated hotel on my next visit.
