"We had to keep a window open because it was an unusually hot night and the room had no a/c. Unfortunately, the window was above an alley next to a pub making for a noisy night. Our room was also positioned just inside a door at the top of the entrance stairway. This meant that we also had the constant sound of other guests coming and going. We were also subjected to a loud shriek and commotion early in the morning after someone found a dying bat in the alley!! There was a bath with a hand-held shower attachment which is not the best or easiest way of taking a shower." (107100752)

Location. Right on the main road in the centre of Borehamwood.

No air conditioner, no shower fixture, poorly located room

"Awful - completely unacceptable - at any price" (97808227)

Smell, noise, tiny room, dirty shower room and someone had used the toilet. It was not possible to stay there - even although it was 8.30pm and I had no alternative placfe to stay. I wrote to the Booking agent, as follows-"I have just left this hotel – impossible to stay here – smelly, tiny, grubby room – the whole place reeks of food and is terribly hot with no ventilation. Why do you have this place on your site?" And the response from the hotel was appalling - they charged me for the night and saidf it was I who hasd used the toilet. I wrote to the hotel, as follows: "I am afraid that your decision to charge me for this smelly cupboard doesn’t surprise me – it disappoints me. If you can offer this accommodation at all you have no scruples. I will be asking the local authority what their opinion of your service is and if they ever inspect the accommodation. I am also hopeful that Active Hotels will recognise the damage that you do to their business too. If active hotels don't remove this hotel from their site I will never use active hotels again

    "Won't be going back" (99407852)

    Location central to everything

Requested a twin room but was allocated two singles. However one room was so small that the sink was actually inside the shower cubicle. Hotel right over a pub and was therefore very noisy at night.

"The Elstree Inn was pretty much as we expected from reading previous reviews (although wasn't as noisy as we thought it would be). It was all we needed for a one night stay in that it was comfortable and convenient and we were quite happy. For the cost I would say it was good value for money." (97199921)

It was easy to find and very close to the party that we were attending.

The shower pointed in the wrong direction and couldn't be changed.

The guy who checked me in was friendly and welcoming thats about the only positive comment I have

Situated on a noisy main road the room was pokey and very basic

    the low price

the room was freezing cold and incredibly cramped there was mould in the shower and the toilet was also very cramped. the tv was above the foot of the bed so i knocked it a few tims and the wardrobe was squeashed up against the side of the bed

There were places to get cheap breakfast nearby. Lots of stairs so not good if your elderly. We were allowed to leave cars in car park for the day as hotel wasn't busy which was very kind of them (we were getting the train to London)." (99405757)

incredibly basic. tv basic 8 chanels, definatly NOT SKY as advertised. would we go there again, absolutely NO. However the strong point The Staff, Pleasant attentive and a credit to a basic Inn.

  • 4/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

The staff were very freindly and helpful. This was the only reason I stayed the entire night!! Plus there were no more avaliable hotels in London at such short notice.

This hotel is situated above a veterinary clinic and local pub. Not somewhere I would usually choose to stay. It was more of a hostel than hotel. My room was tiny, very tired and smelled particulary bad. The bedroom window overlooked a skip or bin and so I couldnt even open the window to escape the smell.

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The curtains were falling off the windows, there were cagarette butts on the floor, the quilt cover was dirty, the hot tap in the wash hand basin was not operating and the shower tray plug was blocked.

Car parking was a problem (had to park in the street)Hotel has seen better days and is a bit worn round the edges.

"Obviously I would liked to have known that the hotel was directly above and literally next door to this extremely noisy and quite rough pub, fighting outside. The room was fine for one or two nights, but no longer. It was a very small room, the bed was very compfy though. The staff were very nice." (3305189701)

The fact that the hotel was so close to where I needed to be, staff very friendly and helpful. Bed was very compfy.

That it was over/next too an extremely noisy pub. The room was very small, the hairdryer did not work, there was no fuse in the trouser press, the shower water did not drain away, hence murky water come back up through the plug hole.

"When arriving, we thought our hotel room would have been cleaned to standard, however the carpet was not hovered, and the wall was unclean. It mentioned that we could received TV channels, and Sky channels, however the channels were poor quality, and their was no sky channels. The shower did not work correctly - kept switching on and off, and the pressure wasn't high, had to have cold showers." (3304895158)

It was close to the event that I was atteneding, and close to local shops and fast-food outlets. Close also to the train-station.

The room wasn't cleaned to the highest standard when arrived. The Shower did not work correctly ( Always cold, or Boiling hot ) which resulted in having a cold shower.

No breakfast could have been a big downer save that there are loads of eating places nearby and the cafe opposite does a good value breakfast. There is a McDonalds closeby but don't go to Tescos expecting a good hot breakfast deal. Ideally situated for Studios. Entry round the back off side street is confusing and clearly the frontage downstairs pub get fed up with new arrivals thinking this is the entry point" (3304576690)

    en-suite. compact, clean, comfortable
