"While not unfriendly staff were not welcoming and facilities and food was poor but room was comfortble and clean." (108066110)

Room was a good size and very clean. Good supply of tea and coffee and biscuits.

Customer service was poor. Kettle had a very loose connection and tray into which it fitted splintered and flimsy. It appeared from the labels that electrical items had not been checked since 2003. Shower was very difficult to operate. Breakfast was poor, no brown bread, decaff coffee or herbal tea available. Also Little Chef stated on website to be next door no longer exists. Meals available at hotel mainly fried stuff.

Decor of rooms (but not out of keeping with value for money)

  • 4/10 Mark ( Young couple)

from Chafford hundred , GB  on  April 24, 2008

"Having found the room by scouring the lobby walls for signs due to the staff member on reception being, so it would seem, unable to speak. Until she managed to ask me for the money up front, then went silent again, we were dissappointed to find our 'double room with pull out bed or sofa bed' as explained on the website was in fact 3 single beds. The decor is dated and the bathroom was badly set out and had a bad smell of damp or rotting wood. Some of the light bulbs didn't work. Didn't bother with the 'continental breakfast' so cannot comment on that." (97415743)

Was situated close to where we wanted to stay.

The check-in welcome was non-existant, no explanation where to start looking for the room. The room was 3 single beds, I ordered a double room. The bathroom smelt of damp wood.

"this hotel was good value for money, the room size compares well with hotels such as travelodge and premier inn. the breakfast was adequate for all of us and the children liked that the cereals were in individual boxes. the receptionist was very informative as we were going to the motor racing at oulton park but didn't know the most direct route, we were quickly supplied with a hand written route which was amazingly accurate." (97920525)

The room was a good size for a family of 4 which includes children of 14 and 10

"Overall very friendly, if not misleading. Taxi driver didn't know where Tall Trees lodge was." (97097390)

The staff were friendly, the room was tidy and towels were washed.

Selling themselves on a FREE "Continental Breakfast" (on a banner plastered outside the establishment) is somewhat misleading when my idea of a continental breakfast is more than English Hovis bread and Kellogs Rice Crispies. Where were the croissants and hot chocolate? An excuse to charge for bacon and eggs I say. However, I believe the claim provided ample amusement for morning diners as we heard other guests laughing themselves into their over priced english breakfast and others saying' I'm not paying for that, I'm going to have some continental cereal!' I think my point has been made. Also, the 'Welcome Card' listed some taxi numbers clearly out of date.

  • 9/10 Bruce ( Young couple)

from Weybridge , GB  on  December 19, 2007

"Don' be put off by the fact that it is near the road, we have stayed here twice and have never been disturbed by any noise. The staff are friendly and down to earth; I had great banter with the receptionist when the X-factor results were announced (her guy won, mine didn't!) and we found the lady in the breakfast room to be in high spirits even tho we just about made the 10am deadline!! Good, basic accommodation, the rooms are a resonably large size and very clean, excellent value for money." (97459333)

I especially liked the in-room heater, which you could choose to keep on if you so wished, unlike many hotels who just have air-con or only allow you to have the heating on at certain times.

from Armadale , GB  on  May 18, 2008

"Very easy to find after leaving the motorway. Very handy for Manchester which is what we were looking for. We were met with a very friendly receptionist who booked out taxi to the station and went out of her way to find the best station to travel from. We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room which was spotless. The continental breakfast was also included in the price which was excellent value for money." (97849028)

The room was very spacious and very clean.

not a lot to dislike really.

  • 8/10 ( Solo leisure traveller)

"In all I had a good stay, the staff were all excellent, very polite and friendly. Ideal for anyone wanting a budget priced hotel stay." (97039952)

The hotel staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient. The accomodation is large, spacious and clean. The bath was excellent with plenty of hot water.

I wasn't terrifically impressed with the self-service 'continental' breakfast, but then again I've endured much worse. The Full-Englishe cooked breakfast option was worth paying the extra for.

  • 8/10 Malcolm ( Family with young children)

from Llanon , GB  on  May 14, 2008

"Hotel was very good value and met my requirements in being convenient for my end location. Parking was at the front door." (97303917)

Large room which was clean, light and airy.

Couldn't have the windows open in nice weather due to traffic noise.

  • 9/10 John ( Solo business traveller)

from Ilkeston , GB  on  May 11, 2008

"I have stopped here before and would stop here again. The standard is well above expectation for the price paid. It is not easy to get the shower working well, due to a few pressure problems and the traffic can be noisy, particularly on a hot day; however, these are minor issues. A good place that I would recommend to any business traveller, but not necessarily for a family." (97164125)

High standard for the price. Very clean and welcoming.

Traffic a little noisy on a hot day, when window needs to be open.

Shower worked, but long time to build up pressure and heat.

  • 9/10 Jason ( Family with young children)

from Weymouth , GB  on  April 2, 2008

everyone was really friendly and attentive. it was a laid back atmosphere in which we could relax with our excitable young boys. for which we intend to use everytime we visit this area

thew only problem with this accommodation was the quantity of pillows given, but then when asking for more the staff were really prompt and helpful

  • 10/10 Sonya ( Mature couple)

from Grimsby , GB  on  September 26, 2007

"Suggestions on where to eat although staff were helpful in that direction. Anything information I personally wanted or needed to know was on the website when booking." (97270178)

The room was spacious and had everything that was needed to make a weekend break enjoyable along with very friendly and helpful staff.

Only a little niggle rather than dislike was that the room, which was on the ground floor facing the road, did not have sufficient privacy i.e no nets at the window. I sometimes felt that people could see into the room even though set back a distance.

"I was booked to stay 2no night but checked out at 2:30pm after 1no night. It should be advertised as a workmans truck stop nothing more. Not ideal was single females travellers. The reception staff where more interested in watching TV and chatting to regular builders." (99956783)

    Not a lot

It has no amenities, when I asked about food they directed me to a petrol station it was late at night and no hot food available, breakfast was a joke.

"All the staff were very helpful and accomodating and very friendly. The hotel is a clean and tidy place and has a pleasant atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay." (97649418)

Our room was extremely clean and tidy. Any queries we had with the room and the staff were very helpful to accomodate us.

No exterior lighting on the outside sign, so a little trouble finding it, as directions on the website need updating.

  • 9/10 Leonard ( Mature couple)

from Enfield , GB  on  June 18, 2007

"Comfortable and well-equipped room. No food except for breakfast; some filled rolls etc. available at adjacent Texaco filling station, but limited in the evening, when the neighbouring cafe is also closed. Cereal, toast and marmalade for breakfast with good coffee and tea, but no healthy bran cereal or wholemeal bread - only white." (99671165)

Freeserve TV with many digital channels. Good-sized room.

Rather heavy bedcover - a light duvet would have been more comfortable.

"The building, staff, and facilities were perfectly adequate for what we required in context of a one night stop in course of work. However you would do well to tidy up the surrounding area as it is a tip and it does nothing for the image of the hotel. I realise that some of it is not your property but some of it is. If I had come across the Hotel on spec without having booked (and in daylight) I doubt that I would have got any further than the car park" (99908102)

Simple, clean and provided all that I really needed for a one night stop en route

I wish that you provided option of a lightweight blanket in place of Duvet
