"A very good, value for money stopover location offering clean accommodation in a friendly surrounding. Staff were very friendly, service was efficient and food was of a reasonable standard. Definately worth considering, particularly if travelling with a dog." (97361696)

Easy to find; close to the ferry terminus; clean; dog friendly; good value for money; manned reception for easy early morning check-out.

Walls were paper thin and the general ambience was one of being a little tired but overall a pleasant experience.

"Location was great for Eurotunnel. Rooms are adequate for a quick stopover night." (97363596)

    Nearness to Eurotunnel.

Check-in process was slow as receptionist was not at desk and none of the other staff were able or willing to check us in in her absence.

"I stay at the Cottage Hotel regularly and shall continue to do so - unless the alternative source of proper coffee dries up!" (97455512)

The smoking ban now in place! And the pleasant ambience.

The instant coffee I was initially fobbed off with at breakfast. However, when I complained I was given excellent coffee from the other side of the counter.

"For the price, it was an ideal place to stay. It was easy to find (just off the motorway) and had all we needed. The breakfast was good value with an excellent choice buffet. Not luxurious, but we would certainly use it for an overnight stay again." (97429982)

It was clean and, although compact, had everything we needed.

    The hairdryer was rubbish!

"I have stayed at Le Cottage many times. It is ideal for a night halt in the Calais area. It is easy to find, not far from Eurotunnel or Cite Europe and has plenty of safe parking. The meals are also good value and the staff very friendly especially if you have the pleasantries in French.Since we last stayed it had been spruced up with a lick of paint which was overdue." (97987801)

Cheap and cheerful - ideal for a night or two.

"Good value hotel for an over-night stay. Very useful to have parking at the hotel and a good restaurant, both for an evening meal and for breakfast. We were disappointed that the room smelled of cigarette smoke, having booked a non-smoking room. The service was efficient, if a little impersonal. Overall we were very satisfied for an over-night stay." (97946532)

"We have stayed here several times without problem. However, on this occassion we should have checked that the showers were working in our rooms on checking in." (97904229)

The staff who checked us in and were serving dinner were great

There were yapping dogs for hours on end The shower in one of the rooms we had didn't work Noisey drunks into the early hours A receptionist who when checking us out was not interested (she was on duty the previous night)and didn't give a dam about these problems

"This is a basic hotel that doesn't pretend to be anything more. It fulfills its purpose very well, and I have used it twice now and will certainly be using it again in the future." (97588125)

Very easy to locate and great location for Channel Tunnel. Staff very pleasant. Loved the fact that there's a kettle in the room!

The walls and doors are rather thin, so you do hear other people, particularly when they're taking in the corridor. However, I suspect most people are using this as a stopover for channel crossings, and so the noise stops after a while, and during the night it's very peaceful.

"We stay at the cottage hotel twice a year. It is a great hotel for a stopover very clean and the staff are always really friendly and helpful. It is in a good location for both the ferry and eurotunnel, also it is quite close to citi europe." (97130199)

Good location, close to eurotunnel, basic hotel but clean and staff friendly

Though hotel has been redecorated since our last stay, bedspreads still need renewing as quite a few cigarette burns, as a non smoker this is not very nice

"As a frequent visitor to France we have stayed in various hotel chains and overall have never found a problem in any. This particular hotel is well situated to the town and it's amenities and only ten minutes from the Tunnel. The rooms are adequate for adults. The menu is very sustantial and well presented. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and for those unable to speak French there is no problem. I would recommend this hotel to anyone." (97476828)

It was comfortable and catered adequately for an overnight stay. We have stayed there on two occasions and will do the same again.

from Ingham , GB on  March 15, 2008

"Having the ability to watch Match of the Day was a plus, and any other British terestrial T.V. The hotel was also more then happy to allow food from the outside to be brought in, so that you needn't go hungry if you didn't fancy the in house cuisine, either for dinner or breakfast. (Handy Tip-buy croissants from Carrefour in Cite Europe, they're yummy any time of the day!) We chose this hotel in Calais as it seemed to have less bad reviews about the lack of hot water then the others. Although slightly variable in temperature at times, it was more then satisfactory. Overall a pleasant stay and probably the best there could be in the area." (97723031)

It's location made it easily accessible from both the motorway and the town centre. The room and hotel in general was very clean, which is comendable.

Being able to hear anything that was going on in the next rooms was uncomforting.

"It was overall a very pleasant stay at this accommodation excepting the one rule for some and not others attitude towards pets. We will definately return at a later date....with or without dogs!" (97556568)

It was very comfortable and clean with good room facilities and it was nice to have tea and coffee in the room. The food was excellent and the hotel is attractive. A good and convenient venue for shopping and tunnel access.

We were told that we could not take our dogs into certain areas and then saw that other people were allowed to take their pets, to what we had been told were restricted areas! As considerate animal owners who have fully trained dogs and also the fact that we travel with our pets own beds and do not allow them on beds or furniture etc, we felt quite annoyed that we had been treated differently.

Easy to access, room on ground floor, nice large room, nice large access area for shower. Very clean

For disabled an extra handrail to help get in and out of shower would have been an asset.
