Staff very helpful, clean, quiet and nice view.

"Apart from the above comment on leaking windows, really could not fault the place. Lovely stay, lovely hotel and lovely staff!" (97766296)

Beautiful room with spectacular views and comfortable bed, good shower.

Very windy night and the windows were very draughty

  • 9/10 Malcolm ( Mature couple)

from Cardiff , GB  on  July 13, 2007

"The hotel is excellently situated in the picturesques resort of St Martin de Re on the Isle de Re. The hotel was very clean and our first floor room had a lovely view over the harbour ramparts. St Martin de Re has lots of good value fish restaurants and plenty of expensive clothes and tourist shops. We stayed six nights, the hotel would be ideal for a 2/3 night stop over. The only downside was that the weather was a bit mixed and the cost of crossing the viaduct 'allee retour' of 16 euros was a bit salty. I imagine at high season traffic could become a bit congested." (99475499)

Excellent position and good value when compared to other hotels in the vicinity.

  • 9/10 Peter ( Mature couple)

from Newport , GB  on  July 2, 2007

"We had intended to book a hotel in La Rochelle. We had difficulty finding room in a reasonable hotel but we were very glad that we ended up in Le Galion in St Martin de Re. The hotel staff were very friendly, polite and helpful and the hotel was very clean and well maintained. It is worth staying on the second floor as there is a nice view out to sea. St Martin itself is a very pleasant place to spend a few days even though the weather was not too good. We have been to France a number of times and the people in St Martin seemed to be more friendly and helpful than we usually find." (99887041)

    Very polite and friendly service.

    1. Poor shower pressure - could be local conditions 2. Would have liked more variety and choice at breakfast

  • 10/10 Brendan ( Mature couple)

"The staff were excelent, they were very keen to help you with any request you made. The hotel could not have been better. The location of the hotel is perfect for a quiet stay yet it is still close to everything eg: shopping/eating out etc. We really enjoyed our stay." (99106553)

The staff, The hotel, The location. It was all perfect.

  • 7/10 Stephen ( Mature couple)

from Southend on sea , GB  on  April 17, 2007

"A new hotel behind an old facade. The rooms are narrow with a small window. Soundproofing is not good. Bed comfortable. Small TV at high place - hard to view. Bathroom door didn't close properly. Helpful and courteous staff made us most welcome." (99722028)

Located in pretty seaside town. secure parking.

Room quite small and long with only a small window. The sea view for which we paid an extra 15 euros was a glimpse over a wall rather than a view.

"The location is great as it far enough away from all the noise but still has great views. It is a basic french b&B with small rooms, but very clean and comfortable,. suited independent travellers like us brilliantly. Our friends had one of the top floor rooms which was much bigger with beams and very pretty" (3304790021)

Good value for the money - clean and comfortable. Away from all the noise of the port. Great views

lack of air con during the heatwave, but only as expected

  • 10/10 Susanna ( Family with young children)

    from Wiesbaden , Germany;DE  on  July 11, 2006

"Wonderful friendly staff. Rooms with a view from second floor spectacular - worth the extra money. Location great - away from the main area of town but close enough to walk in a few minutes. Quiet and comfortable." (3304951151)

The staff was wonderful so accomodating and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Breakfast could have a bit more of a variety. A nice buffet with bread, cheese, meat, fruits, cereals etc.. would make the hotel perfect.

Much effort had gone into the room decor, in particular

"We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would stay again if our path take us to Ile de Re again." (2931469)

location is particularly excellent. parking very close (which not obvious during peak season. Room with sea view and harbour view

the reception staff should be a little warmer , they are very nice and helpful people but either shy, distant or just tired at the end of a busy summer season. Music in the lobby (also breakfast space) is much too loud. Everyone does not enjoy dramatic classical music at breakfast time !

  • 10/10 Anonymous ( Other)

"This hotel is excellent and very good value for money. Situated overlooking the seawalls of the old walled town of St Martin de Re, on Ile de Re, the old harbour is short walk round the corner with excellent bars, cafes and restaurants offering one of the most relaxed holidays We've ever had in France. The staff are excellent and only too willing to help in any matter. The great bonus is a small under-ground car park that if you book well in advance removes any parking worries (for which St Martin can be a nightmare). Definitely recommend spending a little more and getting a room on the second floor as the view is well worth it." (1872375)

Very clean, modern, comfortable with excellent situation

    Maybe better breakfast facilities

  • 7/10 Wendy ( Mature couple)

from Ely , United Kingdom  on  June 2, 2005

"It was a great pity that this hotel ,although in a lovely situation did not have a bar or restaurant. If we had known this beforehand we would not have stayed there. I have a disabilty which means I cannot walk very far. We had intented to stay in the hotel for meals and drinks. As this was not possible and I could not manage to walk to the quayside twice a day we had to book out early. This was a shame because the staff were very nice, the room was pleasant and the hotel full of character." (1846216)

Character hotel with lovely views. In a good position for restaurants bars and scenic walks

No real facilities in this hotel. Although advertised as having a restaurant and bar, there was neither. Guests have to go out to bars and restaurants.

  • 9/10 David ( Mature couple)

from London , United Kingdom  on  October 13, 2004

"This was our first visit to the Ile and an all too brief overnight stay in Saint-Martin-de-Re. The location of the hotel was excellent for us arriving in the early evening and looking to relax, to find somewhere interesting and nearby to eat well and to get a feel of the town. On the weekend at least we were able to park our car close to the hotel. We received a friendly and helpful bi-lingual welcome and were shown to our room with a minimum of fuss. A number of restarants were recommended and we walked around the harbour after time spent enjoying the 'scene', with a glass of wine, from our window. A comfortable bed and a typical French breakfast completed our short stay." (1547058)

A comfortable room with park and sea view, close to harbour and town centre facilities
