"An overnight stay over a 2 day christmas shopping trip. Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel and restaurant. Superior rooms are good size, well prepared and very well equipped. Lounge / bar has very relaxed and comfortable ambiance. Exceptionally good restaurant - recommend the Saveurs de la mer - 7 courses including 5 fish courses - superb quality and presentation. Excellent but quite pricy wine list. Secure parking provides peace of mind if you have a car full of shopping." (97500642)
The whole hotel was very comfortable and warm on a freezing cold day.Instantly relaxing after a hard day's shopping.

"In all we found it expensive and rather dull. " (108079291)
We booked this Hotel because of it's proximity to the Boulogne-Dover Ferry. It was quiet with a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom. It also had secure parking on site.
We were not welcomed very well, the breakfast was sufficient although for 15 euros each it could have had some more hot food. The parking was fine although we did have a large car and found it quite tight.

"the hotel was simple to find, parking system was excellent, the position on the hotel in the town was ideal. we enjoyed our two-night stay and really could not find fault at all. we would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly for the excellent facilities and the very efficient and friendly staff" (97423150)
good quality hotel which deserves its 4 stars, friendly and efficient staff, lovely - though small - swimming pool and spa. matelote restaurant in the naussica centre opposite was excellent
the only tiny thing wrong was that the toilet set was a bit wobbly

"Nice hotel, good location, very disappointed about the closed facilities and that we were not aware at time of booking." (97432302)
Excellent accommodation.
The main reason we booked the hotel was for the restaurant facilities. We were not told that this was closed over the period until just before we were setting off so it was too late to change the booking. There was no additional discount offered due to there being no restaurant facilities either. Quite disappointing.

"We were extremely pleased with the hotel and the service provided by all the staff , who were very friendly. Our stay was very enjoyable and we fully intend to return, as we had little time in the area. It is a short ride from the Eurotunnel, but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle of Calais." (97488434)
The ambiance and the welcome . The service and helfulness of the staff was first rate . The rooms were very comfortable and luxurious. We had an excellent meal at their top-rate restaurant . Parking is in secure locked garages .

"We always enjoy staying in this hotel. Has been modernised and enlarged since last stay which has made a difference. A fair walk to Bologne town centre and some distance from restaurants except their restaurant which was superb as always. Their restaurant over the road wwas good but lacks atmosphere." (97934104)
Comfortable beds, well designed bathroom. Liked bathrobes. good wardrobe space.
Very dark and poor outlook

"The Matelote is an interesting place, with lots of stairs and passaages, corners and surprises. There's also a lift. We liked the facilities - included in the price, but were a little surprised that car-parking is charged separately. We ate in the restaurant, and there was nothing wrong with either food or service, although it was midweek, & they weren't busy. Be warned, though, its not a cheap option, so if you want simple, inexpensive food, walk the kilometer into the centre of Boulogne. Staff were helpful, and allowed me to practice my terrible French on them. We will probably book again on our next visit." (97753320)
Good-sized room, comfortable bed. Generally, it was a bonus to have use of pool, sauna & jacuzzi.
Hardly a 'dislike': The hotel information in the room didn't explain everything too well, such as use of Sauna, Pool & Jacuzzi.

"Very disappointed that the hotel hadn't picked up on the fact that i am a wheelchair user and the hotel restaurant has a very big step into it. The receptionist didn't think there was one when i asked her... The Restaurant staff were very helpful in manhandling my chair up the step, but that isn't the point. Thankfully i didn't need to use the toilet when having the meal or i think that would have been impossible. Room was fine, although there were some chairs in the foyer outside the room that were blocking access. Wheelchair room was good - although there should be more hand rails in the bathroom I found the receptionist not very friendly in the first place (thankfully when we checked out the next day the staff were much friendlier then). I think it should be indicated when asking people if they want to book the restaurant that it is a very expensive (albeit good) one - i was a bit embarrased at the cost to my friends" (99272498)

"Definitely a recommended hotel - friendly staff, clean and in good decorative order, pleasant colour scheme throughout. Comfortable beds, modern clean bathrooms with both bath and shower. The hotel parking facility was very useful. Great location for the beach and for the Nauticaa aquarium just opposite. Not many negative points - I would have preferred wood floor or tiled floor in the bedrooms instead of carpets, and would have preferred lightweight duvets on the beds instead of the very old fashioned blankets. Also a proper espresso/cappuccino machine in the breakfast room would have been an asset. Didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment about that. Overall good value for money I would say." spotlessly clean excellently decorated and equipped room. the restaurant ( next door) was truly magnificent and the cuisine truly exceptional ( albeit not cheap).

"We went for a short break with 2 friends. It was a great location, we liked being out of the town centre with a great view of the sea. The restaurant in the Nausicaa was fantastic quality and value ( run by the same chef as the hotel ). Easy to find from Calais and good access to the motorway to get to other areas. Fabulous local choclate." (3304163524)

Everything was clean and tidy and in good working order. The adjoining restaurant was wonderful but dont go there for a cheap meal. Good value for excellent cuisine.

"All the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpfull and all spoke good English (far better than my French, but I did make the effort). The hotel is situated on the main road into Boulogne from Calais right on the sea front, opposite the Aquarium which is worth a visit. Parking is at a premium in the area near to the hotel, but if you reserve a space in the secure garage (room for only 8 cars or so)it is worth the additional cost. Lifts serve all floors. The hotel was not too busy while we stayed, this could account for the quiet, but I suspect it is always quiet so you should not be disturbed. The en-suite bathroom was excellent, although we did have a loose loo seat. Bathrobes as well as ample towels were supplied, along with the usual soaps, shampoo and creams. The shower and bath are of very good quality and very easy to operate. Air conditioning is also available to ensure your comfort no matter what the temperature outside is. Breakfast was not included in the price but at 11 Euro's not to much to worry about. A good selection of fresh breads and pastries, juice, tea or coffee. Cereals, dried fruits, figs, yogurts, meats and cheese. If you want a boiled egg done to your likeness ( all self help). Enjoy your stay." (3304214368)
The accomodation was clean and well presented.
There are no rooms put aside for non-smokers. However, although smoking was evident in the rooms we had been given every effort had been made to mask the smell and it was not that bad.

"The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the town centre and is located immediately opposite the Nausicaa centre on the sea front. Parking is very limited around here, and it was well worth the money to pre-book a parking space at the hotel. We also booked a table at the restaurant in the evening, which turned out to be a gastronomic delight. Service in both the hotel and the restaurant was very good, however we did visit out of season." "It was well worth booking a garage space - excellent facility. We had booked a table in the restaurant (next door - no direct access)on the first night but were disappointed with the welcome in there. The lady appeared irritated by our initial inability to find our way round the menu (we were tired after a long journey) and were treated in an offhand manner. However, the food was excellent. As we were staying two nights we dined at a local brasserie on the next evening and thoroughly enjoyed it." (2800090)
