We were styaying for the wedding of our daughter as she was getting married in the hotel . We would like to thank Julie the wedding organizer and all the staff for making her day a day to remember as everything went really well.

"I was surprised by how nice the hotel was and it seemed more like a city centre hotel than the suburbs of Newcastle. I would definitely stay there again if I ever venture to the Toon again" (99273288)

Friendly staff, clean room, early check in was great, decent breakfast, bar looked good

None really. We were booked into what looked like a disabled room so the shower was quite low (unless it was a room for the vertically challenged) but that wasn't a bad point, just the only thing I would have changed

    "Excellent value for money" (108024477)

Room was newly decorated, large and with a very nice modern bathrooom

Check-in was a bit slow; seemed to be a problem with the computer when booking in the previous guest. Noise carried easily through the wall from the room next door.

Staff were friendly, location is excellent

we had the osborne suite however this was the very first door as you went into the corridor so we heard everyon comng past in the morning. We also weren't able to check in until 2.50 although check in should have been 2pm. That meant we had to hand around for some time from arriving. We also found there was an air lock in the taps so every time we ran them we got splattered in water.

    "Unsatisfactory." (97511300)

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The general appearance of the hotel and public areas was satisfactory.

On arrival at the hotel, the receptionist was unable to find my booking form either in the card index or on the computer and kept me waiting for 10 minutes before another member of staff came to her assistance and completed a form manually. Fortunately I had copies of my booking confirmation with me, or I fear I may have been sent away! The hotel information states that there are facilities available to people staying on business, such as access to the internet, email, etc, however on asking I was told there was access to wifi in the hotel reception area, but I would need my own computer. I was also told there was an internet cafe nearby, but the directions turned out to be a wild goose chase and on asking in nearby businesses, no-one knew of an internet cafe in the area. I requested a taxi for 8.15 on the day of departure, but it arrived at 8.05 and I was interrupted while having breakfast. The hotel is in need of refurbishing - in my room the door chain was broken, making it impossible to secure the door. The bathroom did not have a towel rail so there was nowhere to put towels that were in use. I was staying in the hotel for two nights, and would have been happy to re-use towels, so I left them folded on the side of the bath to indicate this, however they were taken away for (unnecessary) laundering. I appreciate this may be viewed as good customer service, however I would like to minimise the impact my staying in hotels has on the environment as much as possible.

"Even on short stopovers I prefer to stay in hotels rather than at Bed and Breakfast houses. Sometimes, however, I wonder if it is really worth the extra. " (97990232)

There's a good lively atmosphere in the area the hotel is situated. Close to city centre. Easy access to main traffic routes on leaving.

Receptionist wanted to process payment for accommodation on arrival - a common procedure nowadays but a sure sign of an ordinary hotel compared to a better one, where you tend to be trusted. Food and service in restaurant were mediocre. Restaurant staff would do well to smile more and be more attentive rather than constantly occupying themselves with less important tasks. White wine was not pre-chilled - a simple thing to do. Door of ensuite bathroom had been kicked in and repaired with duck tape and painted over. Bed was pretty hard. Index on a basin tap missing. Bath mat needed replacing. Paintwork round windows in bedroom and restaurant very shabby.

    "Fantastic, will come again." (97360042)

Service of staff, attitudes fantastic. Relaxed atmosphere. No hitleresque security in the evening.

1 of the rooms wasn't ready at out circa 4.30pm checkin

  • 4/10 David ( Mature couple)

"Rather disappointing and compared poorly to similarly priced hotels in other parts of the country." (97937153)

The restaurant evening meal was very good and reasonable value for money, but were only able to use this facility on one night.

The room was spacious but not well appointed - one bdside cabinet did not have any storage - false door front and there were only 2 x 13 amp sockets, one occupied by the TV. There was an old fashioned 5 amp socket in addition - but useless. Decoration needs updating and the room cleanliness left something to be desired. Breakfast was additional £9.70 per person, so we went elsewhere locally for around £8 for two. Front of hotel rooms were very noisy in the evening - suggest one requests rear of hotel allocation

"We think that information given by hotels should be more exact as to smoking policy in rooms say if they are smoking or not. we and others at this location had the same problem. We will not stay in hotels with no smoking in rooms so come clean and TELL US before booking not on arrival" (97389628)

    Position

We booked an executive smoking room on arrival the room we were given was a standard twin not very clean and no bath panel fitted the decor was very run down. We complained and told they would upgrade us to an executive room I told them this is what we had booked and in the end they gave us a complimentary breakfast which was very good food but this hotel must have a policy of put smokers in second rate rooms as the room we had was non smoking to get bookings, even the stair carpets were threadbare.

"I doubt whether I would use this hotel again." (97005416)

Hotel was an interesting old building in a convenient situation close to the centre of Newcastle.

Not all the electrical fittings were in working order. Most annoying this included the electric shaver point. Cleanliness was not of the highest order, with particular reference to the mould in the shower.

"Overall I was very happy with my stay at the hotel. It providied me with everything that i was looking for, i.e a bath and a bed, and was ideally located, only being a 5 minute taxi ride from Newcastle City Centre. The only downer on my stay was that the shower was not working but it was just as easy to run a bath. The staff were very friendly and even offerered to have the shower fixed. Overall I would reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for someone to stay whilst in Newcastle." (97223849)

The location of the hotel was very ideal, and the rooms were extremely clean.

The shower in our room did not work unless you were using scolding hot water.

"We booked this hotel because we wanted to be in the main stretch of hotels and bars along Osborne Road so it was perfect for having lots of eating and drinking options on the doorstep, as well as having a taxi rank nearby so you could get into the centre of Newcastle very easily too. The staff were friendly, the place itself nicely decorated and furnished, the room was warm and comfortable. Our only gripe was that noise travelled so easily between rooms...even just a normal level conversation could be heard between our room and the next." (97429040)

Great location, newly refurbished room with nice bathroom

Noise travelled easily between rooms..so we were disturbed by people talking and watching TV in the next room.

"Generally the hotel was OK. It was reasonably cheap and was about as expected. On the positive side the staff were very good and the hotel was clean. The room was a good size and the standard of decor was good. However, the heating controls on the radiators were broken and the room was ridiculously hot. The hotel obviosuly knew this as they had opened the windows and provided a fan! This was in February, so it must be awful in Ausgust. I think the review should state that the hotel is in a very lively area. The hotel should offer tea/coffee facilities in their rooms" (97554137)

Clean. Good size room. Free upgrade to twin room. Good location. Nice public areas. Friendly and helpful staff

Room was very hot. Hotel located in a lively, noisy area. No tea or coffee facilities in room. Breakfast ingredients tasted cheap.

The decor was really funky! It was great to stay in an older building for a change. Those modern hotels can be a bit soul-less.

The cold water plumbing didn't seem up to the job, but still had a lovely bath. This is my only problem with the hotel/room.

"Noisy streets outside city hotels are unavoidable, particularly at weekends. However noisy youth inside the hotel in the small hours of the morning is unnacceptable. People were up and down the corridor outside our room for at least two hours between 2 and 4 am. They knocked on each others doors (and our door) talking and laughing. The level of noise was unbelievable and sleep impossible. My elderly mother in law in a single room on the same corridor had a bath at 3 am since sleep was out of the question. The manager refunded 50% of our cost and was apologetic. We were not particularly refreshed for a 7 hour car journey the following morning." (97861378)
