"Great hotel. We arrived on a Motorbike in the pouring rain looking am little worse for wear. No problem. The staff were excellent and were not in the slightest flustered. The room was very clean and the evening meal was fantastic. The only small gripe was the one matress on the bed (two singles pushed together) was a little soft and you could feel the springs. Saying that this was a minor gripe and did not effect the stay. We will return!" (97899423)

    very comfortable and clean

"Apart from the dining room problems the overall stay was excellent and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel." (99545157)

size of room excellent, colin the concierge was very efficient, the dining room staff could have been a little more efficient, we waited an appreciable tome between courses e.g coffee 30 mins which is a bit long even although we appreciate time between courses this was just a little too long.

"Please take the following in context, we really enjoyed our stay the hotel, food, service and staff were very good, excellence requires a tweak at the following Restaurant was not value for money, every course was neatly presented and tasted very good however the portions were very small. £7 supplements to upgrade maincourse to different cut of meat. Most staff were excellent, however the porter would benefit with some customer care training, he really should not moan & discuss other guests." (99991096)

Modern, clean, spacious, b&b good value, cost per room not per person

Smoked bacon at breakfast no alternative.

  • 8/10 Derek ( Mature couple)

from York , GB  on  April 14, 2007

"Overall the stay was good with an excellent breakfast. The quality of the evening meal was good and the service staff were helpful. However, the organisation of the restaurant seemed to lack co-ordination - eg wine arrived late, after the starters and bread had to be asked for. The expresso coffee served at the end of the meal was in volume about one third of which is normally served. As a returning vistor to the hotel it would have been more welcoming if this had been recognised on arrival." (99888932)

Good sized room and bathroom facilities

The bedroom was near the stairs with fire closing all night causing disturbed night sleep

just one thing let it down. main course of the dinner menu was disappointing. veg not thoroughly cooked. quantity too small. hearty apetites stay away!. this didnt spoil overall very enjoyable stay.

Hotel staff very helpful, beautiful views, excellent position close to glentress forest for mountain biking- the purpose of our visit. We have stayed here before.

My only complaint would be the poor quality matress on the bed, room 316, - very hard with obvious springs digging in.I used the top tarten cover under the bottom sheet to aid comfort on the second night which was better. I actually always travel with my own pillow but everyone else in group all also said pillows very hard.

"I stay in a different hotel virtually every week and this is the only hotel i have ever been to that could not cater for all the hotel guests in the restaurant. Given it is in the middle of nowhere this is extremely poor. Dont go to this hotel if you get hungry." (3305220885)

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Group of adult friends)

"I would have liked to know that the hotel was on an A road as I would have asked for a room at the back. However, it was a pleasant room, and when we had a problem with the electrics cutting out, we were moved promptly and without fuss. This also got us away from the noisy late night smokers. The breakfast was very good on two days, with a cold buffet and hot food cooked to order. However on the last morning the hotel was so busy that a banqueting room was used as an overflow, with the hot food kept warm and served buffet style. In addition, instead of a proper pot of tea, guests had to make their own in a cup with a tea bag and hot water from a flask. This was rather disappointing for a hotel of this standard." (3304116958)

    Good sized room, lovely bathroom.

Original room was on the front of the hotel which is next to a noisy road. Also smokers from the bar gather outside reception until late at night at weekends (3am on the Friday), and disturb guests in nearby rooms.

We wanted to eat out rather than stay at the hotel for evening meal and we needed a taxi (or take the car which we decided not to do) there and back." (3304448744)

the room was very comfortable the lounge area allowed us to stay within the room to read and rest. we had a french window with view towards the golf club, it was fabulous. no need to use the hotel lounge.

to add a water bottle in the swimming area. we had to keep going from the pool to the gym to access drinking water. more information in the room about outdoors activities. where exactely it is, how much and for how long.

  • 9/10 Carolyn ( Young couple)

"Accommodation was very good and to a high standard. Our room was a very good size with fantastic views and a large clean bathroom. I would recommend that anyone expecting to have dinner at the restaurant (staying Bed and Breakfast) make your eveing reservation in advance as the restaurant is only small and gets booked up quickly, as we found out! (also book the golf in advance to avoid disappointment.)" (3304226485)

Rooms were very clean and a good size, our room had a lovely view over the hills. Bathroom also quite large with a fantastic power shower (great after a day out quad biking!)

Our bed was very hard, it was like sleeping on a rock!

The room was spacious and very clean with excellent heating. The en-suite bathroom was very nice with both a shower cubile and a bath.

There was not much of a choice for vegetarians in the menus.

"It is a nice hotel and would be particularly good for golfing. It was a new building with a superb gym. It did not have the charm of an older property nor have a nice lounging area as the restaurant was located in plain view of the main lounge." (3304242445)

It was a nice setting. The reception and housekeeping staff were excellent.

The catering was disgraceful. The management has been advised prior to this review and have already acted on it.

  • 7/10 Rachel ( Young couple)

    very spacious wonderful views

radio stations on TV not working windows did not open very wide surely this is against building and fire regulations as we were on the 4th floor

  • 9/10 Anonymous ( Family with young children)

    on  November 29, 2005

It was very clean. Room was quite spacious.

I felt the hotel was primarily aimed at people travelling on business and was not very family orientated. There could be more activities to keep young children amused, eg a soft play area etc. Especially as I felt the location was quite remote and there's not much locally for children either.

"Please accept this as our own experience and not as a criticism. We greatly enjoyed our stay. We were not too sure if golf was available within the agreed b&b cost or extra. Though we did not bring clubs it would have been useful to know. No, we did not enquire whilst there." (2740695)

It is in a beautiful setting and offers peace and tranquility in the modern high speed world

Attention to detail in the rooms. eg. TV set up correctly with remote control that works properly. Beds should be made up carefully and not just thrown together. Also the availability of sheets/blankets is an advantage in lieu of duvets.

"The hotel is lovely and a really comfortable place to stay as well as being in a good location. I would recommend it to anyone, however I would avoid the restaurant for your evening meal, it is certaintly not worth the money, and doesn't feel like time has been taken with it." (2641069)

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, as was the hotel in general. Staff were very friendly.

The restaurant could be improved, we were brought the wrong meals initially, then mine was cold and my partners was undercooked. The food was definatly not worth the money we paid.

"This hotel is set in stunning surroundings. Great for golfers and non-golfers alike, this hotel has an excellent leisure facilities for everyone. The rooms are finished to a very high standard. Although our stay was only for 1 night the entire hotel made us very relaxed for the entire stay. Take a walk along the river Tweed that runs past the hotel and you should see the heron and other wildlife as we did." (2603326)

Beautiful setting and lovely all round accommodation. Great leisure facilities.

2 points. Firstly it would be good if there was a vegetarian option for the cooked breakfast. Vege sausages are widely available. The buffet was a welcomed alternative for my vegetarian partner. BAKED BEANS - as a option on the cooked breakfast would of been preferred. My second point was an access path from the main road to the hotel. The majority of your customers do travel to the hotel by car but we arrived and had to walk all the way round. Not a major complaint.

The accommodation was excellentpublic parts dining and bar very good however service in the bar prior to dinner required additional staff bar prices excessive.

Breakfast(hot selection) very limited did not provide for the famous Scottish Breakfast

"GREAT FIND JUST OUTSIDE OF PEEBLES, WOULD LIKE TO HAVE KNOWN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE GOLF AND FISHING FACILITIES BEFORE ARRIVAL. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE HAD A NICE BOTTLE OF WHITE WINE WHILE ENJOYING THE VIEWS, HOWEVER £17.99 IS A LITTLE STEAP FOR A BOTTLE OF HOUSE WHITE WHEN YOU ARE AWAY ON BUSINESS." (2445966)

THE BEDROOM WAS GREAT, ESPECIALLY WITH THE WINDOWS OPENED. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS.

ROOM SERVICE MENU VERY BASIC AND THE FOOD WAS NOT OF A GREAT STANDARD/ ROOM SERVICE WAS BOOKED BETWEEN 7:00 AND 07:15AM IT ATTIVED AT 07:25AM AFTER I PHONED AND ASKED WHY THERE WAS A DELAY, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE WHEN STAYING OVERNIGHT ON BUSINESS. I WOULD NOT HAVE MINDED IF IT WAS LEISURE BUT I DID HAVE AN EARLY START THAT DAY.

Being on ground floor. We are both disabled.

Our room lacked window curtains and being near the road, passers-by could look in.
