"I would highly recommend this hotel for its beautiful setting, the courtesy of the staff and the quality of the restaurant food. The ambience of the stately home style surroundings mixed with the modern interior designed bar and newly renovated bedrooms flawlessly. However, I would suggest asking for one of these rooms as the unrenovated one we were kindly given to shower in when our shower was broken proved to be extremely tired and much smaller. Instead of fluffy towels there were thin ones and the bed linen was of an inferior quality. In contrast the renovated rooms are imaginatively styled and give both an opulent and contemporary feeling. Overall, once the newly renovated rooms have sorted out their largely plumbing problems and all rooms have been updated this is a fabulous hotel which works well for families or romantic stays." (97389473)
The hotel itself is a very impressive historical building which has been maintained and designed with great style. The room was freshly decorated in a modern style which managed not to clash with the classical style of the lobby, restaurant and other areas. The bathroom was large with modern shower and lovely thick towels and dressing gowns. The staff are attentive and personable.
Unfortunately the shower had a fault which meant there was no cold water. Also the air conditioner leaked which resulted in water damage and meant it had to be turned off. There was also a constant clunking noise throughout the night which seemed to come from the next room's radiator. The taps in the bathroom were also far too noisy! If I am picky I would have to add that the beautiful furniture was let down by petty annoyances such as no mirror on the dressing table and a hairdryer lead so short that it wouldn't reach in order to use the large standing mirror.

it was a nice, cosy, romantic environment
there was no toothbrushes and toothpaste. the breakfast spoiled our morning after. it took more than 30' to fry an egg and a sausage...

"The Hotel is one of the best we have stayed in anywhere in the world, we had Dinner and Breakfast the food was first class. The staff were all efficient and friendly, as soon as we went into the Bar/lounge we felt relaxed and were impressed by the Bar staff, overall it was a pleasure to stay." (97972822)
Clean, good sized bedrooms, all soft furnishings in excellent condition. bathroom was clean and in first class condition.

"The toilet seat in our en-suite bathroom was broken (split) and injured (pinched) my wife on the bottom leaving her in some discomfort and large bruising. The seat was not replaced during our stay although reported to the reception. It was difficult to shower the following day as there was only very luke warm water. We were later told that in the morning a lot of people bath so the hot water is all used up" (97235110)

We were initially ignored by reception despite there being four people in a very small office and us standing directly outside. WE found the room underwhelming and somewhat tatty (paintwork, broken mirror) all this represented poor value for money

"apart from the decor and furnishings we enjoyed our stay, the restaurant was excellent." (97540156)
Location was good with excellant car parking.
the room was 'tired' and needed attention to carpets and decoration. There was a settee in the lounge that would have been more suited to a taxi office.

"Superb setting which is not matched by the atitude of the staff. We failed to get morning coffee promptly on the terrace and waited 15 mins after ordering and had to go in search of staff. A large party totally occupied the entrance hall / lounge early in th evening and when we returned from an evening out making us feel like intruders instead of welcome guests. Notice on lift announcing LIFT OUT OF ORDER is not a good first impression on arrival especially when a passing staff member said it was working and it was! Surprised that no bath robes are included in the room, I really value them after a busy day." (97259090)
Quiet well furnished room.
Over heated, we had to run the AC all night. Bedside light with dud bulb though it was promptly replaced. Room lights too dingy to read in the armchairs.

"This hotel was chosen as a Christmas treat whilst we visited family. It did not disappoint. The rooms and central areas were elegant and a treat to spend time in. All of the staff were attentive and friendly. We particularly enjoyed the chap in charge of breakfast who combined efficiency with a good sense of humour. This was the first time that we had used this hotel booking service. It was easy, efficient and effective." (97560767)
The quality of the sleeping area of the room was excellent. The public areas of the hotel were elegant and a treat to spend time in.
The bathroom was a little tatty round the edges. It would benefit from a face lift.

"A truly stunning hotel in a beautiful area. Artistic and grand but welcoming and comfortable. Minutes away from shops, resteraunts, bars etc. Fantastic stay. We will certainly stay there again." (97521894)
Fantastic setting, immaculate presentation, beautiful room, friendly staff. We will deffinatly be coming back, but staying a little longer next time.
Nothing to dislike whatsoever. A very small thing, a nicely stocked mini bar on arrival would have been perfect, however I am sure room service would have been able to help if we had asked.

Professional friendly staff , relaxing envoirnment. Very comfortable pillows.
There was nothing that we specifically disliked, I would suggest that every room has a fridge, hence fresh milk could be provided for tea and coffee. There was a variety of teas which was good , however Nescafe is a no no.

( i've subsequently reimburssed them). it should be noted, that apart from this cliche, their stay surpassed their expectations" (97489334)

"We liked the hotel location- central but almost rural feel.Staff were helpful and friendly. The lounge area had friendly relaxed atmosphere. Dinner was pleasant but expensive for quite small portions and lights were so low we could not see what was on our plates. Drinks from the bar were extremely expensive.Breakfast did not supply lowfat spreads as alternative to butter for those of us needing low cholesterol options. Overall we enjoyed stay and would visit again." (97306791)
Pleasant well designed room.
Radiator did not work for first night but staff quickly offered an upgrade room which we declined and the radiator was fixed promptly next morning. The duvet was not large enough for us to have a cosy nights sleep.Extra cover was supplied for second night on request.

"No reply to email prior to stay. Telephoned question about menu for Christmas Eve incorrectly answered. It was a set meal. We were told it would be a la carte. Nowhere to sit and have coffee when returning to the hotel on Christmas night - as buffet going on in lounge, so obliged to perch on bar stools - told there was nowhere else to go. Not enough choice of fresh fruit or variety of yogurts at breakfast. This part of the breakfast was laid out in the lounge so the spent smoke of the smokers present all puffing away drifted over the food laid out in the lounge area. Discussed this briefly with the Manager, who took the point." (99802426)

"Slightly B&B style room within a beautiful country house with spectacular gardens. In number of ways, almost gets there but just misses the mark: eg order tea and scones, waiter does not know what type of tea there is; receive tea and scones, but no milk so have to ask for milk, then see no knife so have to ask for knife, then see no serviette so have to ask for serviette, etc - exit exhausted! Also unasked for early morning alarm in the form of 7am empties being thrown into bottle bank upset tranquillity of slumbers somewhat. That said, staff do make an effort; hotel is full of good intentions but needs strong hand to pull it together and make it work." (3304782381)
comfortable bed, clean, pleasant decor

We knew the hotel from more than 10 years back; it's style, unique location, and it has maintained its strenghts and developed.
Music in the lobby a bit intrusive, also because limited other public areas indoors. A library style space for dialogues or reading would be welcome.

"The hotel is in lovely surroundings and the staff attentative. I was rather taken aback to find on arrival that a major refurbishment of the reception and bar area was inderway with a lot of associated noise. This could be heard particularly during breakfast, during check-in and out and when talking to reception on the telephone. With the work complete I can imagine that the stay would have been much improved." (2616358)

our room, 319 was lovely, the hotel itself was elegant & the location relaxing & tranquil
The organisation & delivery of the breakfast staff who failed to look after individual tables, brought toast followed by butter some 5 mins later, we had to ask for coffee....so I would say their performance was very poor....also the breakfast food which was left out without some sort of low heating was cold.....this area of the hotel needs dramatic improvement

"It's like a piece of English countryside in Wimbledon - we didn't leave the place for 3 days and were so relaxed by the time we left it was wonderful. In fact, it was a bit of a shock to see the hustle and bustle of everyday life when we did drive off. The food is great quality, although the menu a little limited after 3 nights. One area of contradiction though - the staff (who are young and friendly and fun) don't quite marry up with the ambience of an older style slightly stuffy dinner time (music, decor, etc.).. i understand the plan is to change this..." "We were pleased to be within walking distance of Wimbledon Tennis Club yet in a very peaceful setting. The hotel had a very country house hotel feel about it. The general decor of the room and bathroom needed updating. There was a false fire alarm in the early hours of the morning. There was a lot of confusion amongst guests and it would have been good to have had a call to our room to tell us not to worry. A vegetarian main course on the dinner menu should be included." "The hotel is a beautiful, grand house set in pituresque grounds overlooking Wimbledon Common and just a short walk from the All England Tennis Club. With a warm welcome and a number of very helpful and pleasant staff I must say I enjoyed every minute of my short stay here. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting London, especially Wimbledon. There was a wonderful atmosphere there the morning of the start of the tennis tournament and even free travel there if you did not choose to walk." (2406171)
I liked the hotel and grounds very much. The decor was inkeeping with the style of the house and it is situated in a very pleasant area.
I had the oppurtunity to try the full english breakfast, as a caterer myself I understand the pressure of getting everything right but was disappointed to recieve only one rasher of bacon. Everything else was perfect but unfortunately that is something that has stuck in my mind. Also, we asked a gentleman on reception, to book us a taxi for a trip into town that evening. He arrived promptly and was very pleasant. He did not have a taxi meter and stated the journey would cost £37.00 not having anything to go by I paid for the journey and gave a tip. When getting a taxi for the return visit (a black cab) which had a meter I was disgusted to find the price of the journey was over ten pounds cheaper. Not that this is any fault of the hotelier butI strenuously advise they choose trustworthy reputable taxi firms and preferably even black cabs so that customers at least know the journey fare is correct.

The bedroom was large and had an impressive 4 poster bed - the lighting was very subdued to the point it was hard to read and the temperature even with the heating off and the windows open was very high. Not a cheap hotel but one which knows its business and performs smoothly." (1870258)

"The hotel is in a lovely location looking out over Wimbledon Common and Canizaro Park. It is within easy walking distance of the restaurants in Wimbledon village. The accommodation did not quite match expectations on this visit as the view from the room was very restricted, the bathroom was not as clean as it could have been and the upper floors are in need of some renovation, especially externally."
