    "Generally excellent." (107283735)

Internet connection very expensive. I believe this should be a "break-even" service and not a profit-making one!

  • 9/10 Paul ( Mature couple)

from Macclesfield , GB  on  August 11, 2008

"Great. I expected the staff to be a bit more formal, instead they were friendly, helpful and polite. 10/10." (108084918)

Staff, room size and facillities, location,

Only one lift out of three working on the first day, however maintanance crew working round the clock and second lift working on second day, probably fixed the other one by now.

The fire alarm went off in the morning when me and my little girl was in the swimming pool, and she was a bit scared, but the staff looked after her and calmed her down.

    "It was nice" (97011302)

The staff and the location of the hotel is the main advantages

We thought the internet in the room are included in the bill. It was not stated in your site as it is a paid service

    "highly recommended " (97751841)

clean rooms A+++++ easy walking distance to town centre 10 min walk from piccadilly train station

dont drink in hotel bar prices are very high

  • 8/10 Sue ( Group of adult friends)

"I have stayed in your hotel before and again there was a wedding reception taking place so you should be aware of what rooms you are placing other guests in. The hotel is ideally located and is very clean. As stated previously, the room size was fantastic but the decor was so dull and depressing. It was my sisters big birthday and I cant really say the room was special. I did mention her birthday at reception and enquired if we could upgrade as it did state this on the booking form but obviosly subject to availability, my request was denied. It was most disappointing to find a cot in the room which also clarifies a personal touch was missing. If two people are allocated a room without children, the cot should have been removed beforehand. Having said that, I dont mean to be so negative but on my previous visits to your hotel our room had been excellent which is why I brought my sister with me. On this occasion I really wanted it to be special and it wasnt." (97894274)

There were two double beds in the room and the room was very spacious.

The decor was dark and quite depressing. There was a cot in the room that had definitely not been requested. Wedding taking place and the noise and singing went on all night so could not sleep. I would have been extremely angry had I of been on a business trip.

"The on-line booking was misleading and needed extra e-mails to resolve. The hotel was very comfortable with a very relaxing atmosphere and courteous staff." (97023335)

Central and accessible; very comfortable bed; excellent breakfast

Not spacious - odd colour scheme!

"Really enjoyed staying at the Midland hotel, very clean and tidy. The only downside for me was the dinner we had there on first night, which was expensive,a very tiny portion and cold." (97931224)

Nice hotel, ideal location for city center.

Bar and food prices very expensive.

"Overall, a very pleasant stay" (97795990)

It was to a very high standard and most comfortable for our needs

Booking in was a little confusing

  • 3/10 Linden ( Family with young children)

from Chatburn , GB  on  January 10, 2008

Spacious rooms, large beds, ice available in corridor. Bottled water.

Window frame and masonry crumbling around the window, missing curtain letting in light. Not any warm blankets or bedding just sheets and a very heavy and uncomfortable top cover that was dated and not warm just heavy. Check in staff got the opening times of the sauna and swimming facility wrong by two hours telling me it was 6am when it didnt open till 8am.

    cooked breakfast not very hot

  • 7/10 Craig ( Young couple)

from Darwen , GB  on  January 2, 2008

    Location

I didnt like the fact that I had booked a 4* Hotel yet the bed in the room was two single beds pushed together which made for a very uncomfortable nights sleep.

  • 10/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

The room was spacious and very clean.

Previous guests' used plate outside the room nearly all day.

"good check in, nice spacious and modern room. service and condition of eating area seriously let it down. cupboard doors falling or fallen off, random and slow service. shame as good food." (99882428)

a modern and spacious suite, modern décor, great location.

    bathroom could have been cleaner.

  • 10/10 Wendy ( Group of adult friends)

from Newark , GB  on  December 25, 2007

"Spendid, would definitely recommend to freinds for a break in Manchester. staff were very helpful and accommodating. I would have like to have been informed of any leisure/entertainment facilities prior to arriving, as it was only at check out did we realise there were facilities in the basement !!" (99273119)

It was very luxurious, and the accommodation was extremely good

Only 1 fault was that we were sat at breakfast under what must have been an airconditioning vent and as a result, our food became cool very quickly.

  • 9/10 Philip ( Young couple)

from Billington , GB  on  December 19, 2007

    Pleasent staff.

Air conditoning was faulty in our room,(521) During the night it was very hot in the room making it unpleasent.

"This was the second time we have stayed at the Midland when attending the theatre. Perhaps offers combining theatre and stay overs would be a good promotion, we hope we can do the same again next year. An enjoyable break prior to Christmas." (99405969)

It was clean, modern and bright

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

Comfortable hotel. Frendly helpful staff. Hotel positioned within easy walking distance to most places of interest.

When sitting in the Lounge near reception, felt slightly pressured by different members of staff to order a drink/coffee I did'nt want

"As the name suggests...a Quality Hotel in many respects and one to aim for when I next stay in Manchester." (99315312)

Everything was 1st class and we appreciate the fact that there are plenty staff members available to help when required.

  • 7/10 Harry ( Solo business traveller)

"i was dissappointed with breakfast. cold toast, no butter or marmalade on my table, average coffee, limited selection of food available" (97073163)

spacious room with separate lounge room

the big bed was two beds joined in the middle I could hear the trams too much

  • 8/10 Brenda ( Mature couple)

from Bolton , GB  on  October 3, 2007

"We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel and have to say that even though we were on the sixth floor the lifts were excellent. This being a reasonably higher priced hotel it would have been nice not to hear other occupants in their rooms, but I have to say that the carpet on the corridors was of such a quality that no noise was heard from there. It may be an idea for some of the managers to actually stay for a night to get an idea of what does happen in their hotels." (97117110)

    The spacious room and decor.

The fact that on opening the door it would only open two thirds as the mini bar and complimentary tray had been place immediately behind consequently the first time on opening the door it bounced back at you. The other dislike was the pile of plates for hot breakfast were cold. This was repoted to reception who stated that she would inform the duty manager. We do not know if this was passed on to them.

"the standatrd of the hotel and staff was excellent. it was a lovely surprise to be upgraded when we arrived and the suite we were given was beyond all expectations. everyone was friendly, professional and very helpful and nothing was to much trouble. A night that we will remember for a long time to come." (99547472)

  • 9/10 Ian ( Mature couple)

    from Chesterfield , United Kingdom;GB  on  May 31, 2007

We were upgraded to a junior suite which we found very comfortable.

The view from the windows was of a low wall or balustrade. We were frightened to touch the mini bar in case we were charged (how can you choose if you cannot remove it to see what's in there). We would have preferred a real double bed rather than two singles pushed together.

  • 9/10 Jo ( Young couple)

    from Bingley , United Kingdom;GB  on  May 30, 2007

"Second time we have stayed at the Midland and really enjoyed the stay - bar prices a bit steep but this is what you expect in a city centre hotel. Lovely hotel and we will be back." (99437246)

  • 9/10 Keith ( Young couple)

from Southport , GB  on  May 23, 2007

"Close enough to GMEX to be able to park there, but wouldn't have found it easy with heavy bags. Didn't get to use the pool as it closed at 7:30. Excellent location for us as we were there for the Great Manchester Run and the hotel is between start & finish lines - we'll probably be back again next year, but arriving earlier to make use of the pool! Plenty of choice of restaurants & bars within a very short walk." (99001770)

Room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Check-in and check-out were very quick!

    Room a touch small.

  • 10/10 John ( Family with young children)

from Southport , GB  on  May 23, 2007

"Parked at the G-Mex underground car park and dragged our cases to the hotel. Not too far but up some steps etc. Found out later that we could have pulled up outside and had a valet park the car for £2. Hotel was modern, clean and classy. Room seemed huge with 2 double beds, dressing room and large bathroom, flat screen TV, etc. We ate in the restaurant that evening and it was very good. Food was excellent, served quickly with no problems. Waiters attentive but not overly so. Prices were a little high but overall bill cheaper than expected as got pre-Theatre discount for eating 5-6pm. Self-service breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice." (99153908)

Wonderfully relaxed overnight stay in a very classy hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful without being in-your-face.

£10 charge for my son's breakfast when he is 7 and only ate a bowl of cereal.

    from Dooradoyle , Ireland;IE  on  April 28, 2007

"The staff at the Midland Hotel are excellent. Very prompt, polite, pleasant and friendly, they cannot be faulted - well done! The lobby and bars in the hotel are gorgeous, the decor is wonderful. My only negative is the bedrooms. In comparison to the rest of the hotel they were disappointing, small and only adequate. I expected more. More elegant furnishings, bath robes, turn down etc. Overall though they did not take from my stay as I didn't go for the bedrooms! I would definitely recommend the Midland for the location alone." (99457038)

The hotel is very central, close to eveything and easily accessible.

For a 4 star hotel I felt the rooms were small with no 'frills'. They were functional but not plush. I was disappointed with them as I heard the hotel was fabulous and expected more.

The Leisure Centre could do with a few improvements. Gym equipment a little dated and the jacuzzi was not very warm. Would have preferred a mixed (not naked!) sauna!
