"Hotel was good but did not have the time to use the facilities. The room I used was situated in a block separate from the main hotel building - this was not a problem but would have liked to know when hotel was booked. Food was good and the views from the dining room (overlooking the garden) was pleasant." (97683087)
Accommodation was very clean and tidy and well situated being close to the A1.

"This was a lovely hotel with beautiful views and facilities. the spacious rooms and lounge were very much home from home. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Everything is of the highest standard and quality. We will definitely be coming again." (97104815)
Lovely traditional country house in a beautiful setting. The room was very spacious, with a fantastic bathroom en-suite. Public facilities, especially the lounge with two real fires, were superb. Close to major shopping/leisure attractions yet in a peaceful countryside location.
Lack of shower facility in bathroom (although there was a hand-held shower for hair washing). Also, the room was cold in the morning until the cebtral heating had been on a while (it was late December and minus 5 outside !!)

"It was a very nice hotel. The staff were great. The service was excellent. If we were in this area again we would book accommodation at this hotel. The gardens looked well kept. We were disappointed that the weather didn't allow us to make use of them." (97471582)
A Very nice hotel set in lovely surroundings.
The room was cold during the night when the heating was switched off. We had to put the kettle on the floor and use the TV socket in order to use it.

Very high standard of accomodation, good service and it represented excellent value for money. The setting is fantastic.
Room was a little dark, with only bedside table lamps as lighting.

"Nice small hotel in lovely gardens only 30 min from Newcastle. Evening meal was excellent, from a good daily menu with 3 courses for only £20. There is also an A la Carte menu. Super breakfast. Staff were polite ,efficient and attentive without being obtrusive. I will stay here on future trips to Newcastle." (99603167)
Quiet room - in Garden Block - consisted of a bedroom, sitting room and shower WC. (This was not booked as a suite)
Shower/WC a little dated now - some stained tile grout and only a shower curtain to contain water. The area was clean. Upgrading of this area would be well worthwhile.

"A country house hotel, with a lovely lounge and dining room. I had asked to be put in the older part of the hotel, and the room was lovely. Nicely decorated in a simple manner. Really liiked having a blanket and cover instead of a 'too hot' duvet. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was not cheap, but very good. We will definitely go again." (99857691)
Beautiful big room overlooking garden. Big bathroom with bath.
No hairdryer; one of the sink taps needs to be replaced.

"The country setting was lovely as was the garden and although from the outside our accomodation (one of the garden rooms) looked a bit like a potting shed it's fine inside clean, everything worked and there is a nice separate sitting room. Be prepared that the wardrobes are very small - don't come with lots of clothes that need to hang up. We stayed in February and the heating was good which I really appreciated. You have to choose your breakfast and the time you eat it the night before which was a bit of a surprise when we arrived but the cooked breakfast was lovely. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening so I can't comment on their food overall." (99403687)
Liked the small separate sitting room which was lovely for relaxing in the evening.
The wardrobe was far too small and only had three rather battered hangers.

"Far enough away from the roads to be quiet but close enought to travel throughout the area. Excellent restaurant and very discreet and attentive staff. Cosy lounge with sofas set around fireplaces" (99002014)
A grand feeling of stepping back in time with all modern conveniences
I found no fault with the accommodation

"Our room was the big disappointment. We probably would not have stayed there had we known the setup." (99255367)
Its conversion from a mansion house to a small hotel with attractive garden and rural location
Our room was not in the main building. It was a 'Garden' room without a sheltered walkway so we got wet and cold en route. The room was austeerly furnished with insufficient 'wardrobe'facilities. The shower had no shelf on which to place toileteries etc.

"The hotel was very convenient to get to,located not far from the A1. On arrival I was impressed by the grounds & the hotel building itself. It's always nice to see older buildings being restored & retaining alot of their original features. I was made very welcome, the staff were very friendly & helpful. I was also impressed with the menu & the way that the food was presented. I liked my stay at Horton Grange I also thought that it was very good value for money & will not hesitate to book there when I am next in the area." (3304527664)
Made welcome. Staff friendly & helpful. Room & en-suite nice & spacious. Food well prepared. Overall very happy.

"Overall an enjoyable stay. Food excellent in the evening but rather expensive and no table d'hote menu. Breakfast limited but adequate." (3304917721)
Generous sized room on main house .Lots of period features. Attractive gardens. Evening meal good.
Too few surfaces and no shelving for smaller items. Apparently only one socket for kettle on floor. NO proper shower but there was a bath.

"We would like to have known before we booked that we were in a garden apartment, although the price was very good. We would have paid more for a room in the main house. We felt very cut off. In fact in the morning, when we went for breakfast, the door of the main house was still locked. The room was not terribly clean, the bedside cabinets had not been dusted for at least a week. We had no hand towels only shower towels and face cloths. The shower curtain did not reach the base of the shower and therefore the floor was very wet when we had finished showering. There was one coffee sachet and two tea bags on the tea tray. The price of the drinks was more than we thought it would be as was the coffee. The food was good but again a little highly priced. It would be a good idea to describe what the garden apartments contain on your website so that people know what they are facing when they arrive. We cannot comment on the main house but it did look rather nice, but would not like to be in a garden apartment again." (3304812240)

"The hotel is beautiful, has lots of architectural character and is very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. It is set in a picturesque location and was very quiet even though it is quite close to Newcastle airport. On the downside, the mobile phone (Orange network) coverage was almost non-existent, which meant I could not pick up my emails from work. Still, that is only a problem if I need to use a GPRS modem. There is a landline telephone system which I think would have worked without any problem, but my company insists that I use the GPRS modem fitted to my laptop." (3304702952)
Comfortable room, with separate living room. Well decorated and clean
The room was very cold and I had to ask for the heating to be turned on. Also the skylight in the bedroom had no blind or curtain, consequently I was woken up by bright sunshine at 4:48am!

"Very well kept and nice relaxing country-house style. Heating in rooms is not particularly controllable, and beds are a bit on the short side if you are over six feet tall, but these are niggles and the overall experience - the food in particular - is good." (3304691192)

"Very much a welcoming country house feel. Staff were attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. Service was very good despite the fact that the restaurant was busy and had several large parties booked in. Conservatory restaurant overlooking the Japanese garden -traditional with a modern twist. Wish we could have stayed for lunch the next day!" (3304639405)
Charming traditional decor and antiques with bathroom large enough to party in! Lovely large sash windows.
Only slight critisism was a lack of plug points - you had to unplug the TV to boil the kettle

"The area was nice and peaceful, with good access to local amenities. The main hotel building was nice, although we were put in an outbuilding as the hotel was fully booked but we were not informed, and this room did not include a bath as was advertised on the website - only a tiny shower. We did have to go buy our own tea bags and milk as there was not enough provided in the room." (3304374473)
It was a nice area, and the main hotel building was nice.
Facilities provided in the room, including a kettle that works properly and enough tea and coffee for the number of people staying in the room.

out in the annex - very pleasant. Food of very good quality. Service good and very pleasant staff.
Shower needs removable head - we don't all like a deluge over our heads. Shower curtain clings - Nasty!

"fabulous surrounding countryside . we did feel as if we were getting away from it all. we ate at the snowy owl pub nearby which was a lot cheaper and just right for what we wanted at the time. it was really cosy with fires blazing." (2864196)
spotless bathroom, and cleanliness good in general
the bed was a bit short and uncomfortable.the milk was 'on the turn' at breakfast.staff perhaps lacking a bit of warmth but very helpful.

"Lovely location. Friendly staff. Potential to be good. Had to order breakfast on arrival for the following morning. A shame that it didn't live up to expectations. Concerns about health & safety issues in room." (107291444)
Clean and friendly. Potential to be really good!
Water scalding from taps in room. Bath very slippery with no handrail. Only one set of towels set out. Skeleton staff numbers, so those on duty very busy. Priority given to three weddings on forthcoming weekend! All the dishes we chose from menu were 'off' because of weddings!
