    "Friendly and helpful staff" (107227205)

Shown around the hotel, dining area, bedroom and facilities immediately following arrival

No hot water for wash-hand basins or shower took a long time to start to run hot

"It would be OK again at a pinch, but The search continues. " (108094710)

Cheap, parking was easy, new furniture in room, bed was fine

Felt like a rough part of town, hotel seemed somehow "dodgy", no toilet paper (I found some in one of the other bathrooms), furniture had just been hastily assembled e.g. extension leads, no coathangers etc, just all a bit odd really. Not sure how I would have got in (arrived at midnight) if the guy hadn't turned up just when I did. Was it coincidence?

"It was what i needed. the facilitys were very basic but the hotel was kleen and the staff were friendly." (97682947)

The Hotel was clean and well maintained.

Checking in was a bit of a fuss didn't really seem to know what was going on. I had paid for room and breakfast yet they didn't seem to have a record of my payment. Also no tea/coffee facilitys in the room.

"I had not realised that there were no en-suite rooms, probably my fault. I certainly did not know that there would be major plumbing problems and that no-one would turn up to make breakfast! Although the rooms were clean and spacious I had to move room twice, one room did not have a working TV and one had a broken lock." (97275956)

Friendly reception on arrival. Very obliging receptionist on 2nd day, she sorted out breakfast for 9th May.

No hot water to shave with, no breakfast on 8th May (no-one turned up to make it!

"Fair value for money. Not close to the center, but good bus service. Very friendly staff. Management appeared to be a bit disorganized. No lighting in the room's bathroom. This was not fixed after repeated mentions, though we were offered another room. Breakfast room poorly stocked. (No bread for two days). Stay here only if you can't find another place." (97145062)

No lights in the bathroom. This was not fixed after repeated mentions. We were offered to change rooms, however. Breakfast room poorly stocked. (No bread for two days)

"The hotel is no longer called the Travellers Retreat; it is now called CITI MANSIONS, a very good location for the heart of Manchester, or as I found out Old Trafford (come on the reds). The hotel has been refurbished and is excellent value for money. The extra £1.00 I paid for the deluxe room was well worth it, the rooms are large, an ample sitting area with an electric sofa, large flat screen TV and a fridge. The single rooms are also large with a comfortable bed (so I was informed by my niece) but were at the top of the hotel (3/4 flights of steps). The hotel staff are very friendly; one of them even gave all three of us a lift into Manchester. The continental breakfast was more than adequate, on the whole our experience was excellent and come the next football season I will be booking again." (97819463)

I paid the extra £1.00 for the deluxe double room, what a bargain, the room was large, spacious and in very good decorative order. Look out for the electric recliner and large flat screen televisions.

The only down side was that the shower/wc were along the corridoor, and there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room but I knew this when I booked.

    "good" (97045894)

Great service, clean & tidy rooms. I was initially worried about sharing a bathroom but they were quite clean.

The room was quite small, beds weren't overly comfortable but fine for a weekend.

"It is a good place to stay for this money." (97410981)

Clean, quiet during the week, presence a shower and a bath, friendly staff, direct bus to the centre of the city.

There was no kettle in the room and I needed all time go downstairs for a cup of tea.The breakfast time at weekend was not very convinient(starts from 8am) and I could not have my breakfast because I needed to start training at 8.30am.

  • 3/10 Anonymous ( Group of adult friends)

"I would like to have known that at £80 per room per night there were no on-suite facilities. That the part of town the hotel is located in that it is not advisable for females to walk to and from that location on their own. Certain taxi firms won't take you to that location." (99522959)

The room was a good size.

Not clear that no on-suite bathrooms, the room wasn't cleaned, bins not emptied etc. Only one handle to open the wardrobe as the other one had fallen off making it awkward to access clothes.

"I think I have said all I need say in the above boxes. The poor bathroom facilities were a serious annoyance, which should have been put right at once. Other than this, I was happy enough with my choice of this hotel, in view of the reasonable price and proximity to the city." (97253226)

It was attractive downstairs and the staff were pleasant. It was nice and warm. There was an excellent breakfast.

My room was rather dinghy, and the bed was not particularly comfortable. There was no hot water to be had from taps in the bathroom and the toilet did not flush probperly.

"Was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was there was no hot water in the evening, and it was tepid in the morning. Shared toilet/bathroom does not present a problem to me, but probably would to others especially if staying for a longer period of time. All in all a good place to stay for a couple of nights if you are travelling on business, but i probably wouldn't spend a week's holiday there." (97358818)

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar and wi-fi access an additional bonus.

No hot water in the evening, tepid in the morning.

"We booked the deluxe room, however the t.v. didn't work, there were huge cracks in the ceiling, when we tried to make tea and coffee the milk was that off that there were lumps in our drinks. Also the staff weren't very proffesional, the two young girls who worked there were shouting in the next room when we were trying to sleep . However the male worker was very helpful and tried to fix our t.v." (99791990)

"The tucked-away location was a bonus, meaning the hotel was very quiet, the check-in was speedy and efficient, the furniture was very nice, the beds were lovely, the bathrooms were very nice, although not en-suite. Plenty of local amenities nearby and the DVD palyer in our room was a fabulous touch! It was just what myself and my girlfriend needed for a quiet weekend break away and I would definitely recommend staying there, as we will definitely be returning there." (3304797756)

The furniture was clearly very new, the fridge in our room was great, the service was excellent, the bed was very comfortable and the in-room DVD player was an excellent touch! I'd thoroughly recommend a visit!

  • 3/10 Marcus ( Young couple)

    from Reading , United Kingdom;GB  on  May 31, 2006

"£74 a night at this hotel is outrageous. The breakfast was inclusive but don't bother and when you complain they ask if you would like another one. The rooms are kooky and very different to the usual layout and are quite relaxing. None of the rooms to my knowledge are en suite (a fact i took for granted) and although the bathroom was reasonably clean it served some 8 rooms and the shower is poor. Basically don't book in here unless there is nothing in Manchester left." (3304749915)

The room design was unique and very different which made a nice change to the usual layout of a hotel room

The breakfast was a disgrace. it was half eaten and cold, the music was left on all night, directly above my room so sleep was minimal.
