    "It's okay." (108050712)

Staff are very friendly and polite. Quiet for a good rest and away from the city.

TV reception is very bad. I asked for twin beds because I was staying with my son who was going to the University of Manchester but the beds are too short and narrow. My son is 5 feet 11 inches so the bed was too short for his comfort. There was not enough staff to man the hotel so sometimes we couldn't find any staff at the reception when we required assistance even though we rang service bell for a long time - the poor lady was working in some other section of the hotel.

"A good experience if you want 'character' (which we like). Not good if you want modern and fresh." (107262720)

Good service from staff. Good breakfast. Building had lots of character. Spacious room (in old part of building - may be different in new extension). Good value.

Poor decorative order. Furniture in room was stained.

    "EXCELLENT" (107246227)

Breakfast was excellent. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It makes a change these days to have a family run hotel compared to a chain, the family friendliness and our overall opinion of the hotel was excellent. A real credit to the family

    "Nothing special." (107189751)

Friendly staff. Very good breakfast - nicely cooked and generous helpings.

I was in the annex - Fire doors that were very hard to open, no instructions for shower use, lots of chipped paint. No way to say I did not need fresh towels. Advertised as free wireless connection - but very poor quality - kept dropping out.

"Booked last minute on line and took pot luck. Made a good choice, and as it was my wifes birthday, also using the hotel restaurant for our evening dinner couldn't have worked out better. The meal was excellant and silver service, and the pianist playing and singing soft music during our meal made it feel like a special night." (108086871)

Friendly and helpful staff. Evening meal was excellant. Ample parking facilities

Only stayed 1 night, so nothing comes to mind

"We would definitely use this hotel again and highly recommend it to others" (97422060)

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the Hotel had a really nice country house hotel feel about it. Our room was lovely it overlooked the peaceful gardens, We ate in the hotel on the first night intending to eat elsewhere on the second but the food was so good we ate there on both nights,

None really, the tap was dripping on the first night, we told the staff the next morning and they said they would phone a plumber to repair it offering to change our room if they couldn't contact one, but it was all fixed by the time we returned to the hotel later in the day,

"I would have liked to have been able to book a ground floor room as my husband is disabled. However, they were able to accommodate us and change the room. The room was very small and the double glazing seals had failed in the windows. There was nowhere to hang towels and the bathroom was extremely small. The marmalade on the breakfast table was mouldy but overall the breakfast was good." (97702393)

The location was ideal for our visit.

Too small and nowhere to hang towels in the bathroom. The marmalade was mouldy

My room was very clean and warm. \the view from the window was good There was a good supply of tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful.

My room was a little old fashioned and slightly tatty eg the seal in the double glazed window had gone, making the window misty.Bed not very comfortable

  • 6/10 Lucy ( Young couple)

from Reigate , GB  on  February 24, 2008

Staff were very friendly and hotel itself (ie reception, bar and restaurant) were very pleasant.

We were in a room in the annexe - an extension at the back of the hotel - which was small with tired, worn out decor. Bathroom was also in need of re-furbishment. In addition, we experienced problems with the hot water supply in the shower and the radiators were not working properly. (These were fully rectified when we informed management for our second night's stay.)

    very hard pillows, old decor

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

    on  January 29, 2008

The public areas were beautiful and it is a very interesting and attractive building. The evening meal was extremely pleasant and exceptional value for money.

My room contained a very tatty sofa that needed retiring and the carpet could do with a good shampoo. The base board of the bed stuck out from under the mattress and caught my legs. The bathroom was extremely dated and the shower varied from cold to luke warm in the morning.

The hotel also caters for late night access for when no-one is at the front desk. The breakfast was very good too. Overall a very enjoyable stay." (97238339)

    Reasonably priced, clean and comfortable.

Room was a little bit small, but adequate.

  • 4/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

  • 4/10 Virginia ( Solo leisure traveller)

from Redhill , GB  on  October 31, 2007

"Staff friendly and helpful, though somewhat disorganised. Breakfast was tasty. Only serious criticism was hotel hygiene - my room would have been much pleasanter if it had seen a hoover from time to time!I found dirty plates at the breakfast buffet and the table cloth was also dirty. Noisy people in neighbouring room (loud conversations at 1am and 6.30am) but I don't think this was the hotel's fault." (97351492)

Good location (for Altricham area). Quiet location.

Poor standard of cleanliness, both in my room and the restaurant. Grubby!

Limited parking, wedding reception party taking up the spaces. Rooms, especially the bathroom need urgent makeover.

Room decor and fittings old and tired

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Other)

Staff were friendly and the position when visiting Tatton Park was good.

Room was very tired. Only one glass and one extra pillow supplied in a twin room. Room door could only be locked by slamming it.

"The garden was beautiful. The staff very courteous and obliging. The chandelier, one day I will have one. All round good value for money. It was a lovely area and setting and extremely good value for money." (97600609)

Good, clean decor and room adequately furnished.

My only point of critisism is that I felt I was getting up looking for tea spoons, no milk jug on table, had to find napkins - but, didn't want to bother the two girls waitressing. No a big minus.

"Very enjoyable stay - in a lovely location and well located for public transport. Perfect hotel to relax in the garden and enjoy the surroundings or alternatively use as a base." (99120036)

The overall atmosphere at the hotel was excellent, staff were friendly and extreemly helpful and went that extra mile to answer queries, the grounds were beautiful and the food cooked to perfection

The furnishings in the bedroom were dated and the bathroom in our room was not as clean as I would have liked - the shower head and tiles were full of limescale

  • 8/10 Michael ( Mature couple)

Hotel had lovely grounds and loads of character. Staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. Restaurant was excellent and on a par with the best restaurants in which we've eaten.

Room was ok if a little cramped. No iron or trouser press provided. Bathroom had no toilet roll holder, no glass for rinsing after brushing teeth. Only one (1) bath towel and one (1)hand towel provided.

"We have stayed there before and always found it satisfactory. I have stayed with my partner in a double room and this year stayed with my daughter each in a single room The bathroom was a little cramped but I had a double bed so it was worth it. The breakfasts were very good. As we were visiting relatives we did not dine at the hotel but the menus looked interesting" (99470310)

Quiet Clean Staff efficient and pleasant Breakfast very good

Nothing really, the flow control on my shower didn't work but I forgot to report it

Good value, excellent location. Nice grounds and good breakfast. Its onl a 10 minute walk to the tram station and then 4 stops to Old Trafford

The shower trickled out water, but that was only a minor complaint.

    Really friendly and helpful staff

Rooms small and bathrooms very small

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Other)

    on  May 2, 2007

The staff were absolutely lovely, and it was convenient to the Manchester airport. The breakfast was good, with nice, prompt service. The public areas of the hotel were quite nice.

The room was tiny and shabby, with only one electrical outlet, no towel bars in the bathroom, no shelf of any kind for toiletries. The linens were minimal and the beds were more like cots. The teakettle didn't work, nor did the television.

  • 10/10 John ( Solo business traveller)

from Maidenhead , GB  on  April 26, 2007

"I have stayed at The Norman Hurst Hotel in the past and the staff are very accomodating, the food and service excellent. I would like to have known that on a Sunday evening - the night that I stayed this time - there were no eating facilities available." (99734325)

The room was of an excellent size and the facilities within it highly comprehensive.
