"It's a good value, basic hotel- ideal for a short break. The Washington is located on a busy road which might be a problem for light sleepers but was not a concern for us. After booking I had seen poor reviews on other websites so was a little apprehensive but found the Washington clean, comfy and welcoming and entirely appropriate for our 2 night stay." (97274729)

Friendly, welcoming staff. Comfortable, clean room.Good breakfast. Central location - left car in car park.

Could hear guests in room above on 2nd night, think we were lucky not to have neighbouring rooms.

fresh fruit and fresh coffee in the rooms and the staff were very friendly

the rooms were old and not up to date and did not really feel clean or comfortable. The bathroom was smelly and the breakfast room was cramped and airless

Small bathroom - no shelves in bathroom - no draw space in bedroom - loud radio in kitchen

"Staff very helpful, warm & welcoming. Would certainly return & recommend to others." (97567171)

Loved the cafetiere, ground coffee & loose tea plus excellent biscuits. Thought the fresh fruit was a lovely extra. Impressed at hairdryer and particularly writing paper & envelopes - all very good for 'budget' accomodation. Although I didn't use it, room service was a possibility & I felt very safe knowing there was someone on reception all night.

    Clock/radio didn't work.

"Excellent hotel, fine breakfast, in a great part of Bristol." (107289609)

The rooms were clean and well equipped, the staff exceptionally friendly.

Booking over the internet can cause a problem when you need to adjust your reservation, as I was temporarily overcharged.

Good breakfast, close proximity to Wills memorial hall where our daughter was graduating

Parking facilities atrocious but this is typical of Bristol in general, so not really a reflection on hotel I suppose.Difficult to regulate shower, uncomfortable beds and felt uneasy with fire escape routes

Room had fruit and good tea and coffee making facilities including drinking chocolate. The window could be opened.

Toilet and shower arrangements were dilapidated.

    "very bad impression" (108033262)

While attending a conference, I was called back home with an illness in the family. I walked up to the hotel to inform the desk clerk that I would be unable to use the room I had booked. Her response was "Well, you will still have to pay for it". I was shocked and distressed by this response. I had expected something along the lines of "I do hope things will be OK at home" or "thank you for letting us know". I do hope you will have a constructive conversation with the clerk (female) on duty at around 6:00 pm on the 1st July. Her attitude appeared charmless and arrogant.

"I found the staff friendly and helpful. The map given to us at reception was a great help. I liked the way we were near the shops and could walk to our destinations rather than having to drive. As mentioned above I couldn't work the television, but am not very good with technical things!" (97102035)

Ideally suited to walk to the local event we had booked for - at Colston Hall.

My husband's car aerial was stolen while we were parked near the hotel! I disliked nothing about the actual accommodation itself, although couldn't work the television.

"Whilst the principle purpose of our stay was for a concert at Ashton Gate, for which facilites there were very poor and disappointing, the Washington Hotel was the bright light of our stay- completely exceeded my expectations from check in to check out. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone." (97599946)

Staff incredibly helpful cannot praise highly enough. Providing us with a drink when we returned late from the concert without any was a much appreciated gesture. Room was nice with ensuite and nice provision of hot drinks and fruit.

"Adequate for our purpose. " (97474250)

Staff in dining room very helpful and friendly. Good choice at breakfast. Bedroom reasonable, tea and coffee facilites good. Good position for City Centre and University.

Reception staff efficient but not overly friendly. Shower a bit dark and we didn't quite bargain for the third degree burns we received when the water temperature changed with alarming frequency!

"See the 'dislike' answers. I paid nearly £100 for two nights, the first night in an awful non-ensuite room, the second in a single ensuite room that I was moved to at my request. And that was with a discount! I will not be staying at this hotel again." (97518182)

Location (which is why I chose it). Very friendly reception staff.

Rooms that smelled of feet, sticky carpets, extremely noisy (both from outside and inside - no sound proofing to the sides or above rooms, and door catches designed so you had to slam the doors to close them), lights that didn't work, windows without catches etc etc.

  • 5/10 Frances ( Group of adult friends)

"The staff were fantastic. Very efficient, friendly and helpful. Its a shame that the room did not match the main reception which was comfortable and nicely appointed. The room we were in was tired looking and attention to detail with regard to the cleaning was missed. I would recommend the hotel as the staff were so good but I would mention that I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room and the fact that there were things broken." (97438139)

The beds were comfortable. The room was fairly spacious

Various things were not working, the bathroom light, the hinge on the door into the room was not fixed. The room was quite dirty and uncared for.

"food was good a breakfast and very clean area" (97191742)

Plenty of refreshments, including fresh coffee and fruit.

As a single women being in a ground floor room with its own bedroom accessible to the high street. I was not happy at all with this situation, the response given was the door is locked. Does not make you feel very safe though! The reception did try to change rooms but the only room available was a smelly smoking room. For future reference allocate women on 1st or 2nd floor.

the location was close to main city business area.

No internet service. Taxi arranged from reception was 40% more expensive than one you get from the street.

"Expensive considering quality of rooms. Cheap if the rooms had been of resonable quality." (97784590)

    Friendly, helpful staff.

Initial non smoking room allocated stank of stale cigarette smoke. Next room in basement had waste pipes running by it so when ever anybody in the floors above flushed their toilet - I heard the waste flushing away, day & night !

"On finding the hotel it took me 40 minutes to find a parking space and that was for only one hour. On arrival at the hotel I discovered that there is a hotel car park. Although there is a small notice saying the hotel has a car park it is difficult to see when I am driving at 30 mph past it. Even if I did see the sign it is of no use as there are no directions to where the car park is." (97384367)

The cost, but that's a general comment about travelling in the UK. For the same price a could have stayed in a similar hotel in Berlin including the cost of transport.

"I booked hotel Washington on-line. It was really simple procedure and I did not have to worry to look after cheap and nice accomodation. One small problem was that I couldn't find really clear instructions on the web site how to get to hotel from bus." (97948058)

The hotel ws very close to the place where I travelled, close to airport and the city centre what was marvellous. It was very easy to get the hotel form airport. Poeple who has worked during my visit were very nice, friendly and gave me very clearly and useful tips. I spend short, but really enjoyable time.

The problem was in the central heating because it was really to hot. Unfortunatelly, my room had the window on the street site and some of cars made noise. However, this is city so sometimes it is very difficult to avoid of city voices.

The accomodation was adequate, with a comfortable bed.

The bathroom and its door was a little too small so I hit my head twice on the door frame (am 6ft 2in), a little dangerous! The heating didn't work, but a heater was provided on request.
