"Having been a Deputy General Manager in a 5* Hotel and my partner a Head Housekeeper we are suprisingly easy going. I point out these issues as niggles that really detracted from what could be a great Hotel. Having since spoken to colleagues about it, they have used the Haughton Hall before and have similar stories to tell and want use it. So I don't feel it is an isolated incident. It is disappointing because you can see the potential the place has (In line with the MacDonald Hotels)It is just about great Customer service and attention to detail. The whole experience felt like a Hotel from 20 years ago on a Sea-front." (97558464)
Lovely Location. Good Looking Hotel with Period feel in its own grounds. Very helpful night porter.
No eye contact or customer service on arrival at 11.30am. Desk was un-manned. We knew room would not be ready, but wanted to let them know we would be a late arrival.Had to deal with Reception over phone, nobody came down. Told Reception twice we would be a late check-in, but when we arrived night porter had no record of us. He checked us into a room, but it wasn't the one allocated to us. Room only had 1 hand towel, no bath towels. The side board had coffee stains on it, the carpet was dirty. The bedside lamp was broken. The kettle wasn't plugged in and you had to move a huge side-board to plug it in. The windows didn't open in our Room. Breakfast was very basic in comparison to most Hotels I have stayed at.Check-out and once again we were ignored and then had to ring for assistance. I thought I had paid for the Room in advance, however I was charged on departure, the name on the Bill was the night porters who checked us in. Didn't want to cause a fuss so just paid.

"A good hotel let down by some poor staff. For this money I have stayed in places with much better service. The location is great for where we wanted to be (Weston Park) so will probably stay there again. Only just scrapped in an 'acceptable' rating as they need to sort out the evening staff's attitude. The morning staff were very good." (107196283)
Good location and food was generally good. The room was of a good size. The pool, sauna and steam room were good and well maintained.
Reception was left unmanned, and no-one answered the phone number that was left to call. Was told that there was no room service, even though it is shown in the book in the room (the staff member was rude when this was queried). Evening meal food service poor, although breakfast service was fast and efficient. The room was cold and there was no heating, although it was a very cold day for what is supposed to be summer.

"Excellent - will use again whenever going to Shropshire." (97179139)
We have stayed at Haughton Hall many times over the last 2 years and it is fabulous hotel, the staff are friendly and efficient and the atmosphere relaxing. The food in the bar is beautifully presented and of high quality ingredients, as well as being excellent value.
They now charge for the golf and the tennis which used to be complimentary to guests.

"When we arrived at our room we needed to phone reception but the phone in our room was not working. We reported this and the phone was swapped for a working phone, however, when the member of staff entered our room he managed to deactivate our room key meaning that we could not gain access. As part of our booking in we requested an early morning wake up call - we are still waiting for it! Finally - please train new bar staff on how to open a bottle of wine. I had to help out!" The reception desk area was very cramped, and not very private for inputing pin numbers etc.

"Staff were fantastic. Leisure facilities were great. Hotel was lovely. Very close to Telford International Centre which was the purpose of our visit. Very good value for money." (99156409)
Modern rooms with PC's in all rooms. (would have been helpful to advice that there was a cost to using the pc's though). Leisure facilities
I had booked in a party of 12 people and had asked for the best room for organising it but was put into the worst room out of the party. Our room was also directly above a wedding party which kept us awake and the walls in our block were paper thin so we were kept awake the rest of the night by the man next door snoring loudly (both nights!)

Old fashioned country hotel, but all modern conveniences, comfortable room (although no bath only shower),
Had to pay for two people for bed and breakfast, although only one in the room, no reduction at all even for the fact only one breakfast taken.

"Was fantastic. Great value for money and we both really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The village wasn't far away where we went out to the pub, 'Seven' to watch the football on the Saturday night. Fantastic value for money again there and the locals were friendly, coming to chat to us on arrival. Only a £1 taxi ride back to the hotel as by the time the football had finished it was raining heavily outside." (97753894)
Very relaxed and friendly. Loads to do on site during our stay.
Could not turn the heating off in the evening.

"Very enjoyable. If we are planning another trip to the area, we wouldn't hesitate to book Haughton Hall. The building is Grade 1 Listed and is a bit like a rabbit warren so it is important to follow the signs for the rooms." (97227812)
The room was very comfortable and the breakfast choice quite good. The staff were very friendly.
'Dislike' is not an appropriate description. The only snag, arriving in the dark, was that the reception sign was not illuminated so we were unsure if we had approached it from the right direction.

THE CORRIDORS WAS UNLIT AT NIGHT AND THE CENTRAL HEATING RADIATORS WERE TURNED DOWN IN ALL THE CORIDORS WHICH MADE IT VERY COLD. THE HOTEL STILL HAD MANY OF ITS ORIGINAL FEATURES HOWEVER THIS RESULTED IN A FORCE GALE WIND COMING THROUGH THE SASH WINDOWS AND WHILST TRYING TO EAT BREAKFAST MADE IT UNCOMFORTABLE." (97023156)

"Lovely peaceful setting, which enhanced the leisure facilities too. Staff were helpful & very friendly, but not always around when needed. Pleasantly surprised with creative, tasty bar meals, but sadly no food suitable for young children needing plain, un-fussy food. Staff at leisure centre were also very helpful & accommodating, although in the hotel guide we were not pre-warned of a new club rule of no children in pool after 5.00pm" (99257168)
Good sized rooms, excellent bar food & breakfasts, helpful staff, excellent leisure facilities in attractive setting
Broken shower head in en-suite, slow service for bar meals, no fresh-ground coffee for breakfast!

Easy to find the hotel from the M54. Would have appreciated a lift as we were on the first floor , but were offered assistance with our luggage. Overall happy with our stay & would recommend the hotel to friends visiting the area." (99638564)

bedrooms need air conditioning in summer ,or at least sheets rather than heavy duvets.Room let down by 'tatty' old window frames behind new double glazing.

"The leisure facilities were excellent particularly the pool and spa area. The pool was large by hotel standards (15m) and was quiet too. There was no additional charge for its use. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and whilst the quality of the food was good the portions were small and would not satisfy a hungry adult. Additionally, service was rather slow. Breakfast was excellent both in terms of choice and service. Overall I felt that the bed and breakfast aspect of the stay provided excellent value for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel." (99302172)
Comfortable beds, huge bathroom, media facilities.

"First impression of building was not great on arrival. Pictures on the web site rather flater as you would expect. Check in was fine with polite and friendly staff. Room was located at the very end of a 1960's style extension to the building about as far away from the main part of the hotel as possible. Inspection of the room revealed black staining/mould to the silicone seal between the shower tray and wall tiles, some dubious staining on the bed spread and a faulty central heating radiator, the only one in the room, which did not work at all so the room was cold. We were offered a room change two or three rooms down the hall which we accepted. This room also had the black staining/mould on the silicone seal in the shower but in all other respects it was adequate - it was warm! During our stay the general impression we formed was that the building probably hadn't seen much reinvestment since its original conversion to a hotel in the middle 90's and was now in need of general repair and redecoration. Had it not been for the quality of staff, which was faultless, the superb food throughout or stay - breakfast and evening meal - and the excellent leisure facilities available onsite we would have been disappointed with our stay."
