"I would stay here again if I was working in the area. The commute to Canary Wharf during rush hour was longer than I would have wished. Overall I'd much prefer to stay at a small family run hotel where they think of using organic produce and the orange juice really is freshly squeezed than at a hotel chain where you're treated as just another customer." (97387359)

You were made to feel very welcome and everything felt very personal and almost homely. Also free wifi access, a dvd library and complementary coffee was a bonus.

If I'm being picky, the fact that my wireless connection kept dropping out.

    very attractive rooms

nothing, maybe a restuarant would help...

The hotel has an honesty bar and the room had authentic mexicana chocolate with chilli sauce at the side which is a nice touch." (97548345)

"The reviews had raised high expectations of the themed decor and we were not disappoined. Housekeeping was excellent and the continental breakfast with fresh baked pastries was extremely good, as was the morning coffee. Overnight parking is available across the road for £5 but it is also possible to find unrestricted on street parking reasonably close. There are good pubs and restaurants in close proximity and the hotel is opening a tapas bar later in the year which should be well worth a visit." (97631042)

Friendly and professional staff. Room was excellent - it had character, attention to detail - I can't fault it. Great breakfast.

"Nice bedrooms, high quality bathroom facilities including lovely toiletries. All spotlessly clean. Very pleasant attentive staff. Would recomend if you want something a bit different, off the beaten track but still accessible due to great public transport links." (97106439)

It's quirky individuality. The large comfortable bed. The personal touches such a books, dvd's and the honesty bar. Free on street parking at weekends.

We're used to staying in large international chains but on this occasion needed to stay in this vicinity and this was the only 4 star hotel around. It was a very small establishment which meant that this was very different than our usual places that have swimming pools, restaurants etc so it felt very different. Not a fault or criticism of the hotel but something to be aware of. Also similar price to the larger better known hotels with more facilities.

"The booking was easy, just a few clicks. The hotel was hard to find because we were on foot from Oval Station, but for our troubles we received complementaries. The check in was very easy and we were shown to our room which was beautiful and very comfortable, the bed was especially so. The facilities were nice, despite not having an en-suite bathroom. The staff were friendly and I would recommend this hotel." (97601357)

    Friendly, casual atmosphere.

Quite hard to find, but other than that nothing.

I have to say I was surprised and pleased by this hotel and its staff, the bed was very comfortable ,the room though alittle on the small side was well equiped and was spotlessly clean. The only negative was the transport problem the nearest tube was the Oval and I had to taxi fom there to the hotel wich was expensivethere are buses to teh hotel but there was no time table available so I had no way of knowing when I would arrive .

Too small, lack of a bigger window with a view to the outside.

"I would definitely return as the hotel is far, far superior to similarly priced hotels in more central locations and the stay was really enjoyable; so different from the anonymity of large hotels - I actually interacted with people! With a Visitors' Oyster card for transport it really isn't a hassle to jump on and off buses to get there. " (108049599)

I found this hotel exceptionally friendly and informal and a breath of fresh air after years of staying in large chain, central London hotels. The decor and furniture are unique and interesting; the breakfast selection limited (bread/pastry, cereal, juice and coffee/tea) but very good quality. The lounge/dining area is small and communal with large tables and a good supply of Guardian newspapers. There is an "honesty bar" in the lounge and you are trusted to record your consumption which is refreshing! Bathroom, towels and toiletries gorgeous; bed very comfy. A complimentary bottle of mineral water and 2 bars of organic chocolate are provided. The reception staff helpfully provided me with a map showing the location of reasonable places to eat nearby - the Greek Taverna opposite was lovely and well priced. Finally whilst I try not to use air con where possible the temp in London was a steamy 30 degrees and the air con invaluable for cooling the room and drowning out some of the noise outside. In room DVD player and library of DVDs that you might actually want to watch!

These bad points would not put me off staying again but: - not the most beautiful area to stay in (but not that bad either); - not in close proximity to a tube station (but well supplied by frequent buses) - no restaurant in the hotel; - the bathroom was on the small side (but beautifully tiled and spotlessly clean); - a fair amount of noise outside during the night (I had my double glazed window shut and the air con on so mostly drowned out): sirens; traffic; shouts from youths.

"I would stay again. I applaud the individual design style adopted, and the thought that has gone into making a stay at Church St so enjoyable. The hotel demonstrates that modern hotels don't have to trade character to get efficiency. Please thank my hosts" (97826710)

Excellent quality and that it dared to be different. It had all the comforts of a modern hotel but with the distinct finish and services of the best family run hotels. Wonderful continental breakfast

Not much. Frail or physically disabled people would find access too great a challenge. The location was daunting (blame the Times article for that) but I found it easy to get to by tube and bus, and surprisingly convenient for central London

"Although the hotel itself is excellent and caters for all needs on an overnight stay, the surrounding area is a somewhat run down leaves a little to be desired and, on approaching the location I was apprehensive about what I would find. I shouldn't have worried as the hotel is an oasis of style and calm. There is an excellent pub over the road and a superb gastro-pub a couple of hundred yards away. It's quite a trek to the centre of London (too far to walk) but there are plenty of buses to various destinations in the city. Overall - a very pleasant experience." (97627052)

Attention to detail, cleanliness, bright decor made and homely touches made my experience a pleasure - one that I hope to repeat.

The Hotel was quirky and the staff were friendly, just wish the Tapas Bar had been open. (Maybe next time) We would certainly stay hear again if we need to be in the Camberwell area." (97438123)

We loved the quirkyness of this hotel, most unusual decor, wonderful comfy beds, very clean and breakfasts were excellent.

The room we had at the front of the hotel was a little noisey from people on the street below.

"The surrounding area isn't particularly nice, but once inside the hotel it's like an oasis. The bedroom was small but clean and the bed was exceptionally comfy. There are no coffee and tea making facilities in the room but on a lower floor there is a breakfast room where you can help yourself to fresh roast coffee / tea/ chocolate and drinks from the 'honesty' bar - much nicer! Breakfast was fresh organic produce. All the staff were fantastically helpful with places to eat, bus routes, taxi's, etc. One of the nicest places I have stayed." (97940577)
