"Hotel is fine for an overnight stay - I wouldn't stay here longer than one night since the rooms are very basic and the bathroom is small. It's just like a Formula 1 or Etap hotel so it's ok." (97902979)

"this accomodation was well suited to a family of 5, we had two rooms and the doors were next to each other at an angle with another main door to the hall. We were able to leave both bedroom doors open with the main door closed which worked well. It was neat and tidy, nothing fancy but had a nice ensuite and TV. A quiet location but right near the centre of calais and 10 minutes from the big shopping centres. Very easy to walk to local resturants and centre shopping. Will stay again when next in calais. Lots of parking." (97807272)

this accomodation was well suited to a family of 5

Decor was a bit dated and the breakfast for 5 euros was just toast and cereal, a cooked breakfast would have been nice even if we had to pay more.

Great value! 40 Euros for the night. The hotel is very basic but was clean. The staff were efficient. It was ideal for us as an overnight stay after arriving on the ferry and then travelling down to the Dordogne.

good location - 10 minute walk to centre - lots of restaurants close by. Very good breakfast for 5.70 euro - not just the normal bread lovely fresh fruit salad worth having breakfast here

Clean Sheets, TV picked up English Channels, Breakfast was good, friendly staff

The Hotel was tired and looked as if it could do with a face lift, poor carpets, you had to be thin to access the shower, cracks in the basin, garish paint on doorframes, no drawers or anywhere for clothes only 5 coathangers for the three of us.

"Fine for a nights rest before getting the shuttle/tunnel home." (97408207)

Central location, close to town centr restaurants etc. Not far from Tunnel/Ferries. Good buffet breakfast.

Some noise from bar over the road; Rooms looking a little tired. A lick of paint and some maintainance on the fittings, particularly the loose tap in the bathroom, would brighten the place up.

"We just booked for a short stay taking the midnight eurotunnel train. Location wise good, but next time will choose a different hotel for more comfort." (97537358)

old but clean, worth the money we paid.

We booked a triple room, though the upper berth was extremely tight, I would not recommend for three adults to stay in this room

"The hotel is situated in a good area.It was close to the town and a 10 minutes drive to the Eurotunnel. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. I can't really say anything bad about this hotel; however, this hotel should be use only for an overnight stay not for a vacation." (97389168)

The hotel was clean. I like the fact that our room was connected to our children's room. The hotel is a ggod option for those traveling on a budget; however, I won't recommend this hotel for a long stay just for an overnight.

I dislike the fact that they didn't have a kids tv channel to entertain the little ones.

"We didn't expect the hotel to be particularly glamourous, and it's hard to describe it as such, but for the price we were very happy, and for an overnight stop it was very much ideal. Just a shame about the confusion over the payment at the start, which made us fairly suspicious initially." (97128504)

The hotel was good value for money and was generally better than I expected in terms of room facilities. I was also pleased to have access to some English TV channels, though I expect this will soon come to an end due to the UK's decision to start making all of our channels digital-only! We liked the sense of local pride in the bar, which was dedicated to the local football team (we came to watch the team play as the main reason for our visit, so this added to the overall impact of our enjoyment). The barman was friendly and spoke good English, which was useful given our limited grasp of French. The location of the hotel was superb - much nearer to the station than we expected.

The receptionist made life quite confusing for us, given that we spoke only limited French. She took more money from us than was stipulated on our receipt, and returned it to us when we queried the bill, which made the start of our visit fairly unsettling. The bar prices were quite high, but when compared to other local bars, the mark-up wasn't perhaps as unreasonable as you might expect, and I liked the Wilfort beer which I didn't see anywhere else on our trip. However, I could only really afford to drink one glass-full at those prices.

"If you are looking for a double room or even a family of two adults and one small child then the accommodation is fine but for three adults or two adults and one teenager then the room is not really suitable. It would probably be more realistic to use the two rooms which are adjacent to each other which have an adjoining door to the corridor as a family room to enable the family with older children to spreadout and definately be more comfortable. I would recommend the hotel for couples wanting a basic nights stay but not really to families." (97417092)

The accommodation/ bedroom & bathroom was very clean & the staff were helpful

The room was extremely small and even though the room was advertised as a room for 3 adults this was in fact not very practical as the third adult was to sleep in a tiny bunk bed over the top of the head of the double bed.

Location excellent, free car parking & price of hotel. room was clean, staff friendly & check in process was trouble free.

"The Bonsai is in a great location, close to the heart of Calais, just a stones throw from the hotel is a park with a childrens play area and green areas. All the rooms have their own secure key card access, with deadbolts on the inside of the rooms for extra security. We enjoyed our stay very much and am already planning our next trip, it is very good value for money." (97281417)

We enjoyed our stay at the Bonsai, it is particularly good for families, we had an adjoining room for our teenage girls and the bunk bed above ours for our 6 year old.

Perhaps the decor is a little dated, it is clean and functional however.

"Bonsai has always been cheap and cheerful, but more recently it has started to be less cheerful. The walls, doors and fixtures and fittings are very heavily worn now and the whole place needs refurbishment. As an overnight stay the state of the place is tolerable, and for convenience of being a short walk from the centre of Calais is still worth considering. But if the accommodation at a detention centre was this bad it would be closed down ... don't expect a comfortable night." (99363203)

Cheap and cheerful in a very good, central location.

Having stayed here for a few times over the last few years. The facilities and decor are now getting to desparately need a refresh.
